Michael I am with you 100%. ALIAS is the best 'still original' show on the whole of Thursday night. I am not saying that in bias but lets look at the facts.

SURVIVOR - always entertaining, but repetative.
CSI and WITHOUT A TRACE - two shows that is helped by lazy people.
NIGHTSTALKER - ok, it has improved since its premiere, but nothing to scream about. ABC should give it another 2 weeks.
JOEY, WILL & GRACE - "see SURVIVOR"
SMALLVILLE - The biggest BUFFY rip-off in history. Bland show, with bland characters and bland writing. GILMORE GIRLS is the only show on the WB, that is worth watching.
THE O.C. - this seasons story arcs are pathetic. However still watchable.
REUNION - some merit here. But nothing to shout about.

I am confident a rating of /8-/10 will keep the show going. Any drop to /6 and ALIAS will be in big trouble. It's disappointing, that people watch shit like CSi in numbers. In Australia, ratings for CSI are falling 40% from last season. CSI NY - flopped. However its good to see well written drama doing well, I suppose, eg DH, LOST.

I'm not for ABC turning the night into a family scruff. Thats Friday. Plus, the shows that are family-friendly well never do well on DVD as, ALIAS has proven.

Wait... first you say that Alias's ratings right now are on par with previous years as a way to shut people like me and Neo Wolf up. Then you say the show "basically anchored [ABC's] schedule before Lost and Desperate Housewives came onto the scene"? If those numbers were anchoring my network, I would've shot myself.*

*Figure of speech

What kept Alias alive for all those years was the fact that ABC needed the prestige, as The Practice and NYPD Blue were dipping creatively, and it's biggest show at the time was The Friggin' Bachelor. But now that they have Lost, DH (though this backlash is killing it), GA (Appearently it's getting really good) and Invasion (Yes, it does have critical acclaim), the creator even saying this will probably be it's final season, and never becoming a hit on it's own after five seasons, what's keeping it from getting cancelled? Pissed off fans?

You know, The O.C and Smallville are two shows obsessed with such frivilous and superficial things that I could never, ever get into it.
Which is surprising when you consider how much I loved "Lois and Clark". Smallville is devoid of all of the humour, charisma and lightheartedness of the Superman role and instead is some soppy teen drama.

Desperate Housewives, Lost and Commander In Cheif et all are a double edged sword as such. Sure they are fantastic shows that are creative, dynamic and just generally amazing. But on the flip side they mean that Alias, even though its the best of the bunch, is no longer ABC'S go to buzz show; its no longer a priority for the network and its no longer "good enough" with 7 million viewers.

Positive Jon, its not like '24' ratings are that great. Another show, which Fox holds onto because of fans, and DVDs, and critical acclaim.

INVASION maybe critically acclaimed, but its a shit arse show! CiC is probably a show you should of quoted. GA and INVASION are shows that have relied on its lead in. I like to see how they do on Thursday.

Jon; Ive never really discussed Alias with you because theres no point in having conversations with you on it; you present so many discrepancies on the shows information and opinion that I'd spend too long correcting them and going through the points you make. Suffice to say Alias was ABCS consistent #1 and #2 drama before Lost and DH.The format of the show resticts it from ever being a big ratings hit, largely because television audiences aren't smart enough.

P.S - Where the hell is all this Invasion "acclaim" because the only reviews ive seen for the show have called it stale, aimless and claim it has the irritating ability to simply drive over mines of possibility to stupid resolutions with uncharismatic and uninteresting characters.

Smallville is helped by the fact that it not only has teen viewers like most WB shows, but also older ones (My dad is a major fan). And it seems to be gettng out of that creative two-season slump it had by finally diving into the Superman mythology (Evil Lex, Fortress of Solitude, Brainiac) that it has been building up to. I've only seen one episode of it this season though (The second one which seemed like more of the same, but with a powerless Clark), so you'd have to ask Neo_Wolf.

Heh, you know what would work for ABC on Thursdays? A crime drama. At 9:00 so it doesn't get in the way of CSI/Without a Trace. Just a run of the mill like those two, not trying to be too meaningful(Blind Justice). I seriously think if they want to make an impact on Thursdays, thats how.

I myself have watched 5 episodes of "THe O.C" in my lifetime to try and understand exactly what makes the show such an appealing cultural success.
All im seeing is a sluttier version of Dawsons Creek and that was a teenage girl show; but bizarrely THe O.C's audience is pretty much split where im at between M/F.. I just don't get it. I mean really, theres no gripping storylines or anything...

Woah, shes a LESBIAN!? God there goes THAT romantic dynamic. Lets spend a season trying to make her NOT a lesbian because, you know, Hollywood isn't allowed to promote anything but hetrosexuality.

In other news Mischa Barton is demanding a 6 FIGURE SALARY for another season of The O.C claiming to be the shows "biggest star". A 6 figure salary would put Barton on the same scale as actresses like Jennifer Garner, Gena Davis and Teri Hatcher.

The diferrence between Garner, Davis, Hatcher and Barton is that the former 3 names actually act and work hard for their money; whilst the latter just stands around and looks like a big, lesbionic sheet of paper.

Apparently a big, lesbionic, egotistical sheet of paper if her demands are anything to go by.

6 figures? Christ.

Anyways, The OC was real good in Season 1, but has since dropped wayyyyy down. They eliminated all their best supporting cast and put it on the backs of the just 4 teens. Oops? I barely watch it anymore, it gets worse and worse unfortunatly for them.

And where I live yeah its a big male show for some odd reason.

For the record - that dude Benjamin whatshisface and that chick Mischa Barton are the two least distinctive, least emotive actors on record.

Theres a lot of hoopla over Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody but to be honest; they are just functional actors in quirky roles.

Neither of them are particularly charismatic nor are they standout; perhaps alongside Barton and Whatshisface but put them in a cast that can actually act? Not so much.

But the same can be said for countless shows designed for this age bracket; smallville included. Undistinctive, relatively untalented actors and actresses get a huge thrust of fanboyism and these people are forced upon the general public with all this positive buzz and people like me and the rest of the viewing public are like "Eh? Whats all the fuss about?"

Maybe if you weren't so damn biased in your viewpoints on Alias and Invasion in the ratings threads, I'd be nicer about it.

But you know what, forget it. I'm just going to give up arguing with you about your all-time favorite show because you just can't seem to get that feeling out of your system when talking about it in the ratings threads.

See my response to your P.S. in the Wednesday ratings thread. It DOES have acclaim.

Adam Brody is actually ok. However, put him in a serious role, and you probably be laughing in all the wrong places.

I like Survivor :nutso:

It's really the only show I watch on TV.

Thinking of cancelling my service completely.

The OC gets very good work from Peter Gallagher as the Dad. He's simply fantastic.

Hmmmm.. ok, I just edited this post because some might have miscontrued it as offensive and I think it might have come off that way.

Sorry if I offended anyone. It truly wasn't my intention. I apologize especially to Michael.

Basically what I said in short direct format was...
Michael's (known and acknowledged) Alias loyalty leads to an unusually high number of Alias discussions on a non-Alias based forum and I just find it amusing because I'be grown fond of the whole thing.
I'm also, however, seeing that everyone seems to have the same discussion and argument after every week of Alias ratings, going around in circles.

Just wanted to point it out and I think I approached it the wrong way (it was very late), so again, sorry!

Hmmm... can't find a fitting "I'm sorry" emoticon

What the fuck was that post even about

It's totally NOT acceptable to write that kind of thing about anyone else on these forums - so what gives you the right to do it about me? Just because people know I don't really give a shit about general opinons on me dosen't mean that I find it okay for people to come out and diss me like that.

Im far from impressed. I think everyones quite aware that I'm an "Alias" freak. If they choose to read what I write about the show then they choose to read my bias on it too. I'm opinionated and thats you know kind of the point of public forums. These forums are not here to tailor to everyones individual needs - they are here for people to provide different viewpoints on the same thing - mines happens to skew heavily in Alias' favour because I'm a big fan of the show. I've admitted it - deal with it.

You should watch Lost if you've never seen it before, it's of better quality than most films released in theaters, so...
