SNL Season 43
The season opener sucked - how many years since there's been a good episode? Ryan Gosling was incredibly unprofessional. Why do I keep watching this?

Re: SNL Season 43
I had a long write-up which I accidentally deleted (for the better I'm sure), so I'll post brief thoughts:
-Gosling sucked. Laughing in almost every skit looks terrible and isn't funny. One break-up is fine. And it seemed everyone was in on it.
-Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong are the standouts of the vets, for different reasons. Aidy Bryant too. Mikey Day and Alex Moffat are the MVPs again, after a stellar first year.
-Solid debut for Heidi Gardner, while Chris Redd is a question mark. Seems like someone who falls into the Pete Davidson "we aren't sure what to do with him" category.
-Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Leslie Jones and especially Kenan Thompson need to go. Beck and Kyle are odd performers and never add much. Leslie's only contributions are her Update appearances. And Kenan... just leave. You have the record, now try to get a sitcom.

It wasn't great from the YT clips I saw, Mister Ecks makes all valid points.

Re: SNL Season 43
Gal Godot is incredibly charming on camera, so the continued crappy writing wasting her talent was especially irritating. Also, the cold opening with the country singer saying how the recent shooting incident set a new record for worst in American history demonstrates how even the tragedies in the US are cause to boast: We're #1!

The OJ skit was the best date I have seen in years.
They will never get rid of Leslie Jones, either.

Was the Kumail Nanjiani episode the first good one of the season? Nope. Sucked like the rest.

Re: SNL Season 43
Decent monologue. Beyond that, I can't remember much. The It spoof was cute albeit outdated. Should have had that in the premiere.
Larry David and Miley Cyrus on November 4th. Should be a better show.

Re: SNL Season 43
Anyone watch The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special? I wasn't a fan of the original sketch, but it's cool it gained a cult following. And the special, while hastily put together, was a charming throwback to old holiday TV specials.

Re: SNL Season 43
Not a horrible episode, but it was helped by an able host and busy musical guest (I think Miley was as prominent as Larry... should have just had her pull double duty).

Re: SNL Season 43
Some people not happy about Larry's comments re: the Holocaust. I did not watch the opening monologue yet, but from what I've read it seems tame, and no different from anything he's said before. Moronic SJWs again.

Re: SNL Season 43
This was one of those times where I felt really repulsed by the social media outrage. This was a classic Larry David joke. He didn't deny the Holocaust or make light of the tragedy. It was a harmless joke against the backdrop of a horrific time in history. Right in the pocket of a funny Larry David joke.

Re: SNL Season 43
Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny, unlike the rest of the show. All of the pre-recorded stuff really sucked (didn’t watch the Kyle Mooney one at the end).

Re: SNL Season 43
The monologue wasn't funny at all, but the joke also wasn't controversial in any way. The "controversy" was just SJW wankers hoping to bring down another great man.

Re: SNL Season 43
Some cute moments on an abnormally pre-taped heavy night. They played to Tiffany Haddish's strengths, including telling me who the heck she is.
I'm getting some star vibes from Heidi Gardner. I remember watching Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon early on and seeing talent there, and Heidi seems to be on the right path. Her Weekend Update character last week and her funny Kristen Schaal impression last night puts her ahead of Melissa Villasenor already, who seems to be getting lost in the shuffle.

I can’t believe she’s the first black female comedian to host SNL!!!! Shocked Whoopi Goldberg has never hosted.

Calling Whoopi Goldberg a comedian means that by default you are now funnier than her.

Re: SNL Season 43
Saoirse Ronan adapted well to the format, unlike, say, Brie Larson two years ago. She wasn't a flashy presence in any sketch, but a strong utility player, which is honestly just as important. I thought it was overall good until Update.
Unlike Heidi Gardner, Luke Null has been largely absent since his debut, and his first major sketch was horrible (the Cool Kid). Easily worst sketch of the season, saved only by Alex Moffatt's lines at the end, which were predictable.
Bono and his red, white and bluehorn were OK. I expected better.

Re: SNL Season 43
I thought it was pretty bad. No good sketches. Not a surprise though. SNL hasn't been good in a long time. Though it's the first one I've watched this season because of Saoirse hosting.
When is Armie Hammer hosting?

He's not in December at least. James Franco this week, Kevin Hart next week.

-Say "fucking" on air? Check. -Say "shithole" on air? Check. -Have people bust up over a dog being a dog on air? Check. -Have Steve Bannon portrayed by Bill Murray? All the checks.
Sam Rockwell did pretty well for his SNL debut. Hope he gets another prominent role and comes back. He fit very well.

If only the SNL writers had a tenth of the talent of Sam Rockwell.
