I own the complete series on both Blu-ray and DVD and watch the reruns all the time But I'm excited for the mere convenience factor of it.

Being able to just watch a specific episode will be a huge perk.

I think it'd be cool to actually watch the show from beginning to end as I don't think I've actually seen every episode in order but yeah, watched the show too many times to be too excited.

I've watched the entire show from start to finish around 6 times, and then other episodes on TV multiple other times. Great show, great laughs.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
I'm doing my latest Friends binge. Still love the show, actually I think it's one of the best shows ever made and it will never be topped. It's like our generation's Only Fools and Horses. But I'm watching it here and I thought two things are a little odd:
1. How Joey has a driving licence. I know you don't need to be a member of MENSA to pass a driving test, but Joey is particularly stupid. I'm amazed the writers thought this was plausible.
2. How Jack and Judy Geller don't care about Ross's son, Ben. You never see them together, and that just struck me as odd since usually grandparents love grandchildren. Then I pondered how perhaps they might be conservative in their views and don't like how Carol is lesbian and ruined their son's life by coming out after they got married, but still it's harsh to not see the grandson because of that. They may yet see Ben. I've seen these episodes a ton of times but I don't recall every single frame.
Anyway, just a few thoughts.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
Joey having a driver's license is perfectly plausible. I think he's dopey more than stupid or mentally handicapped (and the writers would just flex this to suit the story telling).
Driving a car isn't an intellectual fete but more a physical one that requires standard courage (i.e., not being excessively timid or scared).
The fact that he lives in NYC means he wouldn't drive often anyway.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
I don't know. He's a fucking moron most of the time. But I'll concede he could get a licence, especially when you see the types of people that get them in real life, lol.
One thing I never liked much with Friends is that around season 5 the characters change. Monica doubles down on her neurotic sensibilities to the degree that she is now unlikeable, as mentioned already Joey becomes basically a retard, and Ross becomes the butt of a lot of jokes because, again, he doesn't act like the Ross in seasons 1-4. Chandler also turns into a softie, which really hurts his ability to crack wise. I think the writers could have allowed them more consistency instead of exacerbating their worst characteristics. Phoebe and Rachel are pretty consistent, though.

Joey is smart enough to drive. Jason in the Good Place probably is not.

That's what I was thinking just being seeing who's driving on the road. Algren wrote: One thing I never liked much with Friends is that around season 5 the characters change. Ross did become a bit of a joke yes. Joey was more womanising himbo early on but did indeed become more of a fool. Chandler fluctuated according to Perry's addictions, but he does mellow. It has been a while since I've watched the series so maybe yes Monica changes for the worst and it does seem like Phoebe and Rachel were most consistent. Similarily - on Seinfeld, Jerry and Kramer remain consistent throughout but George and Elaine change for the worse in the last couple of seasons.

I wondered how long until you switched the chat to Seinfeld It reminds me I need to get back and finish them.

I’m partial to seasons 3 to 5. Though Friends is also top 3 - can’t wait for another rewatch as it has been too long.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
I stopped back in 2016. The last episode I saw was "The Good Samaritan", which is near the end of season 3. But I see they're all on Netflix so that's a possible avenue for me to start again.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
The characters in Friends are actually all quite horrible and flawed people. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but they just aren't good friends. They are constantly cheating on each other, being selfish, being mean, etc. to the people in the friends group, and I'm on season 7. You'd think by now they wouldn't have to show their arc in each episode. Just be nice from the get-go! I get that it's more about being a vessel for viewers to put their struggles through, and at the end of the day it's all about comedy, and after all they always make up ... yeah, I totally get that, it's just that every episode there's loads of examples of them being pretty selfish people.
Anyway, I just watched "The One Where Rosita Dies", which features Jason Alexander as a suicidal office worker that Phoebe tries to sell toner to. It's always nice when stars come into the show for a while. Bruce Willis is probably the biggest star to ever appear on the show. Clooney appeared before he hit the big time. Oh, maybe Brad Pitt actually, and that's a great episode too.

Re: Friends coming to Netflix January 1
True - you tend to look back and think of the "huggy/lovey moments" but thats more an exception than the rule.
Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt were probably the biggest stars to cameo. Perhaps Julia Roberts even though she was on during a dip in her career. Charlie Sheen had one episode and so did Sean Penn.
Clooney was on with Noah Wyle - both fresh of ER in the 1st or 2nd season.
Oh and wasn't there a cold open with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal?

I actually love Pitt's role (the I Hate Rachel club), and Baldwin's (the super positive guy). Probably the best stars to appear on the show. I never cared for Rachel's sisters, Reese Witherspoon and Christina Applegate, but they do a good job of playing spoiled rich brats. Applegate particularly annoys me.

He has supporting role for the first half of the series before his on set behaviour does him in, is great in it though. Probably my favorite comedy ever, it specializes in meta humor.
