Something tells me they'll be on the island for much more than just next week's episode. Can definitely see a lot of drama going down there.

... and there was indeed drama starting on the island! I am enjoying the breakdown of Shane into someone who is just fuckin' mental. Also the sympathy card Rebekah has been playing lately finally made some sense after this episode and I kind of appreciate her character more now.

The only problem I really had with tonight's episode was the events that happened at the Gilbert house. It was great seeing Caroline and Tyler back but it felt like their story didn't really do anything here that we haven't already seen in the past.

I can't wait until the pilot with the Originals airs and hopefully gets picked up because I want them off this show. They are dragging it down. Rebekah can stay though.

Ugh, she's the only Original I like :P I wish she could stay on the main series, though I suppose it makes more sense for her to be on this one.

Yeah it makes sense for her to move shows or else the show would only have two Originals which wouldn't be enough.

I only just saw last Thursday's episode.

It was kind of boring. And then holy shit, THAT is the crazy kind of Vampire Diaries stuff that I love. The whole "It felt like a season finale but we're still a couple of months away" feel. It was just a good ol' Bonnie-stabbing, Katherine-revealing, Jeremy-murdering final few minutes.

Just watched the last episode and holy fuck the ending was AMAZING! The minute that it was revealed it was Katherine I got the biggest smile on my face - she is the best villain this show has ever produced and one of my favorite characters; the stretch of season 2 episodes where she was prominent is probably this show at its best. And then she goes and kills Jeremy (who actually appears to be dead!) I actually don't know where they are going with this plotline for the first time all season. The addition of Katherine in the final five minutes seriously gave this episode (and season) the jolt it needed and felt like a classic moment for this series. I'm impressed the network and creatives/cast were able to keep this twist under wraps since Katherine is a fan-favorite character.

Even though it wasn't his best appearance, I forgot just how much I liked Elijah on the show as seen by the last episode. If The Originals does indeed become a series, I'm glad he'll be a regular on it.

It does seem like they are setting up things pretty well for the last few episodes but they need to get done with the "Elena turned off her humanity" storyline. It's just so meh. In fact this season I think Elena has turned into the least interesting person on the show. That could be a bad thing but I think it just speaks to how great the supporting cast is on the show.

With Cult cancelled, I do wonder if Alaric will make a return to the show next season because the way Season 3 ended, despite his death, it had a sense that we would still see him a bit more than we have.

Just watched the last episode. Man they're really getting rid of the cast with the Originals gone, two (maybe 3 since someone else is supposed to die in the finale?) regulars gone (unless Bonnie isn't gone)... Excited for the finale though! This season has been fun.

Nooo :( I'm upset that Bonnie appears to be dead for good. She was my favorite character.

I had a feeling that Jeremy was going to be brought back to life from the moment he was killed since he was never removed from the credits and was constantly still on set in Atlanta, etc.

The Katherine cure twist was awesome and it should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Overall a really great finale.

Bonnie is a character that got completely f-ed over. Just wow.

The finale was awesome though, this season was so much better than the last.

Post Re: The Vampire Diaries (Season 4)
Before The Originals spin-off started, I found the characters of the Originals annoying on the Vampire Diaries. With both shows, I appreciate that the creators of the show put a lot of thought into who the characters are, that the shows have long story arcs that can last several months, that the shows are about the main characters (and not the plot of the week, like so many other shows), etc. I also appreciate that it is a very different take on the Vampire genre from Buffy and Angel. What tends to turn me off, a bit, is how immoral the characters are. Klaus is such a hypocrite at times. Freya, on The Originals, is promising as a character. Regardless, it would be nice to eventually see the show-runners do a show where the characters aren't so amoral or immoral. I like well thought out characters and long story arcs in shows and would really like to see more shows that feature that kind of thing instead of all the shock and awe plot driven, plot-of-the-week shows.

I still watch this but it's definitely tired now. I don't even know the names of any of the characters they've introduced in the past season or so.
