Re: LOPEZ Tonight Cancelled, Plus CONAN Not doing well eithe
Without the benefit of viable primetime programming, Conan is pulling an average 0.5 adults 18-49 rating compared to Daily Show's 0.7 and Colbert Report's 0.6, and that's usually following CC's own original programming. Of course the numbers are disappointing, but not entirely surprising. Even Leno and Letterman, the leaders, are averaging 0.9-1.0 and 0.7-0.8, respectively.

Not surprising about Lopez, he just isn't funny.
I don't put much stock into Conan's ratings, it's cable and follows re-runs of Family Guy and The Office. House of Payne on Wednesday's - not exactly the best lead-in to have.
Conan does better in DVR ratings anyway. So, it's not as big of a deal as TMZ is making it out to be.

Plus TMZ makes it sound like Conan did to Lopez what Leno did to him. What they left out is Lopez contacted Conan and wanted Conan to come to TBS at 11pm, when Conan didn't want to push Lopez out of the timeslot.
The facts aren't TMZ's strong point.

I completely agree, man. All TMZ is doing is attempting to stir the pot.

Good riddance to Lopez Tonight. Awful, unfunny show.

TBS were fools if they thought the core Conan audience would stay around every night for an hour of low-brow, race-obsessed George Lopez shit.

Fact is, late night TV isn't as viable as it once was, same as primetime. It's "oversaturation", for lack of a better term. Once upon a time, The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson was THE late night show. Now you have The Late Show, The Daily Show/Colbert, Conan, Chelsea Lately, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night, Last Call, The Late Late Show and probably more I don't know about. 0.5 for Conan would be troubling if the highest-rated late night show, The Tonight Show, wasn't struggling to hit 1.0 every night.

It was a bad idea in the first place to go to of all cable networks TBS. At least HBO,FX and comedy central will give him a much bigger platform

It's amazing how forgotten Conan has become. And to be honest, while NBC did screw him, he's really done nothing to help his cause. His show just isn't that funny anymore. HBO isn't really Conan, and Conan isn't really HBO. If he had went to FOX, he might've been cancelled by now.

Re: LOPEZ Tonight Cancelled, Plus CONAN Not doing well eithe
I love Conan, always will. He still makes me laugh. Sure he hasn't got the edge he had when he was in his 30s. But, as much as I love him, no way would CBS choose him to take over for Letterman after the Tonight debacle and now his TBS show not taking the ratings by storm. I maintain the opinion that the numbers are good in relation to being on cable, as well as what his competitors are doing (he regularly ties Colbert in adults 18-49), but if CBS is going for what might have a better chance at succeeding, I doubt they'd go for Conan.

If Ferguson doesn't want the bump up they might not have any other choice but to go with Conan. It's either that or tell Stewart/Colbert to change why they work, or go with an unknown. With any choice they make they're looking at finishing second or third behind Leno and Nightline, which is pretty much where they are at right now. As long as whoever they get finishes around 0.7-1.0 in the 18-49 demo, they'll be pleased, and despite Conan's struggles at TBS I think he could easily pull those numbers again on "network". As for Lopez, good riddance. Screaming doesn't equal funny.

Re: LOPEZ Tonight Cancelled, Plus CONAN Not doing well eithe
I like Conan but I don't think about him anymore in the last year, he's just gone off-radar. We don't know the specifics of what his options were but the impression is that he chased the best financial deal, whereas I think he'd have been better off going for less pay but at somewhere more high profile in order to stay relevant.
He already has more money than he'll ever need, what he needs now is to be talked about and viewed as in the mix. A half hour show after Colbert, while not ideal, would have been one option that would have been better just as an example.
As to Lopez, I don't have a problem with him. Hispanics are a huge part of the country and more than deserve their own talk show host or two other than on the spanish-language networks. Sure he isn't that funny but then again I'm not the target audience.
