I'm rewatching the show from the start and I didn't realize how good the show was after the fantastic second season. I think the whole Jim goes to Stamford thing was mishandled. It just felt like it derailed the show a bit. Why would a documentary film crew follow him to Stamford when it's only about Michael and Dunder Mifflin? I know it's a lost argument. I mean, who shows the footage? Does it air as a TV show in their fictional world?

But after he returns and the cast of many is dwindled down to Dunder Mifflin + Andy and Karen, the show is great. I'm on Season 4 now. Even the hardest cynic has to smile when Jim asks Pam out and Pam gives the biggest heartfelt smile.

So... yeah... Spader good?

S2 - S3 - S4 - S1 - - - S5 -- S7 - S6

I love season two through four. After that weight loss opening of season 5 (I think) the quality takes a noticeable dip. There's a few gems, but a lot of episodes past season 5 I can remember not laughing once.

I love how so many supporting characters outside of the main four (Michael, Jim, Pam, Dwight) evolved so much over the course of the series. In particular:

-Jan started as a strong female boss and slowly degenerated into an absolute mess, maybe or maybe not due to her relationship with Michael.

-Ryan becoming a dick when he takes Jan's job.

-Creed becoming an old crackpot.

-Toby never getting any respect despite being the nicest guy in the office.

Spader always seemed like the choice from the finale....and he showed his crazy talent in the Practice and Boston Legal.
