Re: Supreme Court Rulings
Landmark ruling recently that granted the North Carolina court’s the power to find their legislators gerrymandering unconstitutional. This boosts the power of the courts when it comes to attempted shenanigans by state legislators to fix results in their favor which almost happened in 2020.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
Here in Ohio, we voted to end Gerrymandering twice over the last decade. Then, when it came time to draw the borders, the Republicans just did it anyway and there were no consequences. Democracy!

Now someone in Ohio can charge your legislature with gerrymandering and it can be ruled appropriately so by your state’s courts with actual consequences like in North Carolina. This is a viral move to help ensure checks and balances.

I hope they declare Nevada, New Mexico and Illinois need new maps if they’re gonna crack down on Republican state maps.
Connecticut also seems like it has too many Republicans to have no red seats. Maybe they’re all equally spread out

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
Both seem pretty unabashed doing it, once they have enough power in a state they can control the gerrymander rules to favor themselves. My favorite from last time leading to a 14-3 split when the votes were 56/43.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
In a red state, Chicago and its suburbs would be one district and all that purple area would probably be cut into about 5 lol.
Everyone always seems happy about an "unbias" committee making the new borders but there's no such thing as unbias anymore. I'd say let an AI do it, but if the AI figure out the humans can't even draw their own borders then how long till we can't even run our own governments?
So my best solution would be to abandon the districts all together. Every member of the House of Representin is elected by the entire state just like the Senate.

I am glad to see this, being less likely to get into a college cause of something you can't choose in your skin color is not right, and it's clearly consistent to use the same equal protection argument for this as in civil rights laws.

Affirmative action should be based on class instead of race.
However, Trump's judges taking something, anything away from the black community isn't going to go over well. More ammo for the Dems next year.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
I think that they can still choose on economic situation is a good compromise. If you're poor in part cause 200 years ago your ancestors were slaves who's trauma lasted for generations, there is still a way for colleges to account for it.

Affirmative Action has good intentions but usually makes things worse

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
It's such a good feeling knowing I can be legally refused service at a business because the owner there doesn't like what I do in the bedroom. Just waiting to be added to the "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Animals" signs on the doors.
Thanks Supreme Court.

The president obviously doesn’t have the right to cancel student loans through the courts lol. Good ruling. That has to go through the legislature
Which is the gay ruling people are upset about?

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
A wedding website designer took her case that Colorado's anti-discrimination law violated her 1st Amendment rights if she refused to assist a same-sex couple. Note: No couple asked her; she brought the case to the courts on its own. Neither she nor a same-sex couple was even being taken to court.
And the Supreme Court agreed, saying she can discriminate against same-sex couples if she wishes. Furthermore, any businesses are now free to discriminate against any individuals and refuse services if they believe it violates their freedom of expression / free speech in the 1st Amendment.
This particular case targeted same-sex couples, but it will allow discriminatory behavior against any person(s) from a business if they believe it'd violate their 1st Amendment rights (expression/speech). (E.g. A gay hair stylist/salon owner could refuse service for a straight woman before her wedding; a grocery store owner could refuse service for Jews; a local coffee shop could refuse to serve a Muslim man, etc.)

It’s corrupt to try and force your unpopular student loan forgiveness plan through the courts against the will of the people.

Re: Supreme Court Rulings
I think no one should be forced to do business with anyone. Discrimination is a bad business practice and can be solved in the court of public opinion and by capitalism, since people won’t want to patronize bigoted businesses.
