Even if this message works on few voters it becomes real for them.

I think it was more trying to warn the establishment Republicans rather than a boycott thing, either way not the best thing to say

I agree. Until the 2020 race is "solved", Republicans should just stay home in 2022 and 2024. Don't know if I'd say it's the "single most important thing" Republicans or anyone else can do (I can list many more important things), but good way to make it sound urgent.

Some of the supporters in the comments are in agreement as well. Effective messaging so far.

It would be awesome if 10-20% of nutcases stay away. That should be suffice for swing races.

1994: Republicans +54 house seats, +8 Senate seats, +10 governors
2010: Republicans +63 house seats, +7 Senate seats, +6 governors

Republicans have good midterms after Democrat presidents get in due to a backlash to their spending. With Biden current approval rating being low it would be a failure for Republicans if they didn't win both House and Senate.

Republicans have great chances to win in Nevada, New Hampshire, Arizona and Georgia for a senate seat. Particularly Georgia

However Democrats could take seats in Wisconsin, Florida, Pennsylvania and North Carolina

When they finally try to pass those bills some Democrat Senators will be in an uncomfortable position of either being outed as being Manchin/Sinemas, or voting for the big progressive bill and making their Manchin/Sinema type voters turn on them.

Except him and his allies did this at the end of 2020 and I fully believe this led to them losing both seats in the Senate. Unfortunately for the GOP, unless admits he lost, they risk a repeat in 2022. Shack is right, if the GOP fails to get back both the Senate and the House, 2022 will be a failure. If the GOP doesn’t take the House, it will be embarrassing, just like when they lost Georgia in 2020.

GOP nominee

Trump 55%
DeSantis 15%
Haley 10%
Everyone else (Cruz, Pence, Pompeo, Abbott, Youngkin, Noem, Scott, Romney, Tucker, etc.): 20%

Estimated: Trump 60% chance of running, DeSantis 60% chance of running if Trump doesn't

Democrats nominee

Harris 45%
Biden 40%
AOC 5%
Everyone else (Buttigieg, Warren, Klobuchar, Booker, Newsom, Hillary, etc.): 10%

Estimated: Biden 60% chance of stepping down

Youngkin is basically Mitt Romney w/ a lesson learned from DT fighter spirit. He has potential.

You can see it in the exit polls. He did nearly as well as Romney in 2012 with suburban voters and as well as Trump in 2020 with rural voters.

If Trump isn't the best candidate then beat him in the primaries.

Biggest mistake Democrats made in 2016 was clearing out the field for golden girl Hillary imo. Otherwise Biden beats her and gets elected. Republicans getting out of Trump's way or vice versa could also be the same mistake. Trump/DeSantis/Haley/etc. all in the primary would let Republican voters decide of how scared they are to have Trump run in general again.

Post Re: GOP 2024
The problem is that he's so absurd and bombastic, that he'll drown out everyone else on the debate stage again by just yelling, throwing around insults about their wives/husbands, etc. And, of course, he'll receive the majority of the media coverage again. Not to say he shouldn't run, go ahead, but he's such a character that everyone else who could fair better in the general will be at a disadvantage.

Sometimes the primaries aren't a good measure of who the better general candidate is. There was an example of this happening up in Buffalo just yesterday. A left-leaning candidate successfully primaried the Dem. mayor, yet said mayor ran as a write-in candidate and won re-election. Lisa Murkowski, in the Senate, did this years back when the Tea Party successfully primaried her, if you recall. Kelly Tshibaka, a pro-Trump and Trump endorsed candidate, is trying to primary Murkowski once again in 2022. If they successfully primary her again, she'll win as a write-in in the general again too.

Extremes can work in the primaries, but rarely do in the general.

What's the first thing Trump will do if he's called out on stage or loses any state in the primary? He'll call it rigged. He'll say his opponent is part of the establishment who are still out to get him. And so on and so on like a maniac. And in the general, he's unlikely attract the suburban voters. Would a more Trump-like candidate have won in Virginia last night? Not likely. Youngkin knowingly kept his distance from Trump.

Many are numb to DT's schtick at this point, though, and so many former public allies are now enemies. A quality GOP candidate could absolutely give DT a fun for his money.

I don't think the person who can defeat Trump can be from Trumpworld, but it has to be someone who Trump himself could accept.

The cult of Trump will never waver, but I'm somewhat impressed to see the somewhat level-headed conservatives pushing back against Trump for giving his approval to the Russian invasion. Will it last? Probably not. They don't want to be cancelled by the Trump mob.

It gives Dems major ammunition to use against him though. He tore up the sanctions placed on Russia from last time and then also legally recognized Crimea as part of Putin's territory.

Again, this isn't going to sway the cult, they will just say that is fake news like they do with every horrible Trump thing that has video evidence attached to it. I don't think he will get to 70 million votes again though.

Yeah Biden and the intelligence community being spot on right about Russia and Trump doubling down on his support for Putin might be a critical turning point for Biden especially as the pandemic starts to wrap up

Majority of both parties "Russia invading Ukraine is just not right"
Trump speaks "Putin is a genius"
Trumps backers flip position immediately.

Calling Putin smart is not the same as supporting the invasion

And on cue, Trump says that his followers should be willing to lay their lives on the line to fight critical race theory.

The last piece of the puzzle that I predict will happen next week: Putin is trying to save Ukraine from critical race theory.

Damn....

I shouldn't have gotten optimistic that all the Putin love would finally sink him. That was naive and dumb. This man has the song "Bounce Back" by Big Sean playing on repeat.

As time goes on Trump will fade, especially as Biden’s popularity is starting to make a comeback. Once the gas prices plummet and inflation stagnates and the pandemic is fully in the rear view mirror, that era of politics will fade. The new focus of the right is on culture wars which DeSantis is putting himself bold and center on

The Biden love will happen after Dems lose the midterms. Dems are incompetent when in power, and Reps are evil fuckers, so the tide will turn again right in time for 2024.

Then we get to do this all over again.
