Romney is Hillary... Bachmann is Obama. The former is more qualified, known early and the frontrunner at first - who can't pull off being on TV. Bachmann is the female Repub Obama. Comes out of nowhere with big debate showing - is a clear star on TV - and brings the "first' factor. She's already considered #2/#3 behind Romney right now. The Repubs and everyone else know Romney would get his ass kicked by Obama in the general election. He's off the casting couch for slimy lawyer/politician, fair or not.
The only way the Dems could possibly lose is a Bachmann snowball - out Obama-ing Obama. I'd be shaking in my boots. This was a lock when it was only old white suits in contention for the nominee. A Bachmann nominee is an entirely different animal and that's why I think she'll get it.
If she is, then this election is going to be HILARIOUS.

Re: Michele Bachmann will be the GOP nominee
Bachmann may indeed get the nomination, but it's going to take something huge to defeat Obama.
It's always difficult to defeat a sitting President -- even George W Bush got re-elected with negative ratings far worse than Obama's. And once the campaign gets really going, Bachmann's crazy positions will come out, which will hurt her with moderates.
The only problem is she is bat shit insane. Quotes like "Not all cultures are equal" or that wiping out the minimum wage standard would get rid of unemployment. She's as unelectable as Sarah Palin

"We need to have profound compassion for people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life and sexual identity disorders".
I hope she gets the nomination.

She is nuts, the republicans would be stupid nominating her. Romney is their only hope and I think he would have a huge uphill climb to beat Obama.
I wouldn't mind Bachmann but I think the Pubs will settle with Romney or Perry. I just hope Palin doesn't enter the race.

Re: Michele Bachmann will be the GOP nominee
Romney would be the best choice for the GOP. If you want to win, you have to get the moderates. There's like 40% that always votes Democratic, and 40% that always votes Republican, so you gotta get 11% of the moderates in the middle to win.
Nominating someone too far to the left or too far to the right won't do it. However, the problem is that the decision as to who to nominate is made by the few people who participate in the primaries, which is about 10% of the voting population, and they are always farther to the left or farther to the right than the average voter.
So Bachmann can indeed get nominated by the GOP because the tea party right wing votes in primaries. But she can't win in November.

Re: Michele Bachmann will be the GOP nominee
I can see her gaining support from certain Tea Party voters, however, too much of the Republican party and indeed American right-wing voters (particularly in the party's Christian Fundamentalist sect) is anti-feminist. Some of the people I am referring to might vote for a female politician, but not for a female president. This might lead to support in a third party candidate such as Ron Paul who is both a heavily advertised Christian, anti-choice candidate, and male. This third party support, though progressive in some ways, will ultimately be the thorn in right-wingers' thigh, at least as long as Ron Paul is alive, and the Libertarian party remains right-wing.

Well I don't know about anti-feminist. I thought that in SC with the current gov and republicans nominated her and voted for so I don't think they care about that issue anymore.

She's starting to become another Sarah Palin/Christine O'Donnell in terms of laughable and embarrassing politicians.

I see her or even Ron Paul being the Republican nominee before Mitt Romney. After all the talk of abolishing Obamacare there's no way they could run him. I think the party won't be happy unless their nominee is a far shift to the right.

How much further to the right can they go? At some point they're gonna reach the end of the spectrum.

Ron Paul isn't right-wing really. On certain issues, sure, he's very right-wing. But he's also pro-gay marriage, pro-marijuana legalization, pro-prostitution legalization, and so on. That will not float with the majority of Republicans. I'd watch out for Bachmann, but not for Paul.
There are always so many absolutely frightening nominees. Fortunately Obama should mop the floor with all of these clowns, but the level of support for such people is still cause for alarm even when they don't stand a real chance.
Might have to rescind this statement, wasn't expecting the Palin treatment and it would get much worse if she got in the race
Ron Paul is clearly the best candidate for the Repubs... not only does he have the stance that the they need to embrace right now and the biggest thing that could make them the anti Obama, but he's also well spoken, charasmatic, can draw Dem voters by appealing to liberal beliefs and isn't prone to "OMG" looney stories every week.
It'll probably be Romney or Bachmann though.. and Obama will smash them
