The Supreme Court has held (once again) that the 1st amendment protects everyone, including assholes.

I wish that the court had adopted a more absolutist view of free speech. The case came down mostly as expected including the lineups. I wonder if Justice Stevens would have joined the majority? I am thinking of his Texas v. Johnson (flag burning) dissent where he recalled his own military service. I hope that Fred's own family protests his funeral. It would be what he wanted and just as irrational. |

100% agree. Why Justice Alito was the lone dissenter is what I don't understand. That's the most disturbing thing to me. |

I liked how the UK banned them from the UK. Them winning makes sense because freedom of speech is freedom of speech...but I don't think picketing funerals should be legal as it's borderline harassment, people have a right to dignity. If someone pickets Fred Phelps funeral I will be disgusted. |

If someone pickets Fred Phelps funeral I will be disgusted. Some states are banning all demonstrations within so many feet of a funeral. That will probably be upheld by the court. In this particular case, there was no such law and as such you can't prosecute anyone for doing it, even if they are scum of the earth like these losers. |
