Any man or woman who feels they have the right to decide what is best for others should not be allowed to do so. All politicians are lying scumbags by trade.

Who are you to say that they should not be allowed? You should not be allowed to say that!

You are assuming that all politicians think this way. I think this assumption is incorrect. Certainly some do, but not all.

If I were a politician, I would advocate laws that I think would best serve the common good. If I gained an office and people thought I was not meeting my stated intention, they would have the power to vote me out when I was up for re-election. People have the power, if they are willing to put forth the effort.

Some of my friends and acquaintances have told me from time to time I should run for office. I always defer their suggestion with "How can I ask someone to vote for me when I wouldn't vote for myself." Almost everytime (if my memory is not faulty) they respond, "that's exactly why I would vote for you."

But you're NOT a politician.

I am not but all politicians don't think the way Flava is stating.

Jim Slattery used to be the 2nd district congressman of Kansas and was replaced by Sam Brownback (who is a cousin by marriage of one of my cousins). I don't know either one very well, but I spoke with Slattery a few times. He voted for things that were possible for his constituents and voted against things that would upset them. I don't like Brownback, but even he doesn't think in the manner Flava suggests. I have had discussions with Vic Fazio (3rd Dist. CA) and David Bonior (former Majority, then Minority Whip from MI) and that is not an adequate description of their philosophies. Flava's statement is asinine and borders on nihilism.

I think you're talking about the trade-off of where the worst leaders think they're the best and the best leaders don't think much of themselves. 90% of Type 1 seem to be more motivated to get into politics, which is sad, but there's not many other good alternatives.
