Wow, the Republican candidate Scott Brown is now ahead of Martha Coakley. In Massachusetts for crying out loud! This is the only state that has universal health care, on the basis of which the national legislation was formed.

Now Obama is coming to the Bay state to help fix the situation: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massac ... nate_race/

Coakley is a terrible candidate with a tin ear. Scott Brown is a moderate Republican who has swung way right to appeal to the tea party nuts. If Brown wins, which seems probable, then I'd hope he'd pull a Romney and vote from his more moderate views.

The ONLY reason to vote for Coakley, really, is to preserve the Dem supermajority in the Senate in order to pass health care reform. But at this point, I don't think the Dems deserve to keep their majority.

From a Democrat point of view, health care + her vote for when Justice Stevens (who last I checked had not hired clerks for next term, which is a major major sign of retirement and he will be 90) retires is the most important reason to vote for her.

I'm starting to think that a Democrat president + a majority (not filibuster/veto proof) Republican Congress is the way to go. Both could check the other sides entrenching/baser instincts.

I think its best Republicans start to press the democrats in the house and senate.

Keep Obama in check and the democratic establishment.

If the democrats keep all three houses they will grow complacent and enact stupid laws.

The problem there is that absolutely no health care reform will happen under that scenario. And the health care industry right now is completely unsustainable.

She stupidly didn't campaign hard enough at first, just assuming she would win. It's hard to believe she's the best MA could come up with. A poor candidate who doesn't campaign is always in trouble...

Hoping for a Republican win.

Would make politics far more interesting.

If Republicans come close to winning Mass...

I think Democrats are in huge trouble for 2010

Voted for Brown, guy hasnt sounded that conservative, but more importantly, coakley is just an embarassment.

time to teach the democrats a lesson.

I do not want republicans to take control, but Brown winning will at least make Obama and the Democrats not act so complacent.

2010 will be a bad year.

I think this reasoning is behind why many Obama supporters will vote for Brown.

Hoping for a big win for Brown, teach a good lesson.

Brace yourselves; Scotty B isnt all that conservative. Britt Hume said it perfectly:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/ ... crats.html

This, and hopefully Pelosi and Reid getting bounced, will be the wake up Obama and espec. congress need to move back towards the middle in their agenda.

Health Care reform is dead in its current form if Brown wins.

If the democrats ram it through regardless, they are just asking for an asskicking in November.

Better to go back to the drawing board.

If 61% of the people oppose your plan, its best to rethink your idea.

I think the Democrats would [gladly] suffer 1-2 election defeats for health care. Once it is in, it will be like Social Security and we won't get rid of it and it will be near impossible to reform. Plus they can run adds where Republicans are for killing kids.

Good news for the country, the filibuster proof majority was just going horribly awry. Hopefully this wakes up the Democrats as it's more of a referendum on their actions and politics than any rallying cry about Republican policy.

The downside is this will make Republicans feel comfortable continuing many of the idiotic policies they continue to support, but considering they are the minority, that's an accepted loss in my opinion.

I wouldn't go that far. The fall elections are still far away.

Heard he can't even be sworn in until the 29th, which means if the Democrats really want to sink their own ship ... they can pass the House version of the health care bill before he gets seated.

I doubt that happens, it'd be party suicide.

Argh. I understand it was a crummy, weak campaign, but really. MA just elected someone who admits that he pretty much disagrees with everything Kennedy has ever done. What a 180. Whaaaaaaat?

The bill as it is being discussed is even worse than the boondoggle we have now. Huge giveaway to insurance companies, no meaningful cost controls, no meaningful reform to the system, etc.

Thanks, but no thanks.
