So far, 19 promises kept or in the works. 0 broken. Not a bad first week.

Interesting concept. I'm sure most promises will be 'No Action' - but what is the rate at which it becomes unacceptable?

Everything's acceptable, Krem. MY GOD, did you not get the memo? Obama can do no wrong. If you disagree, you're anti-American and racist.

I'm watching you...

The honeymoon will be over. I hope, anyway.

I do too. I'm sick of it. The general hero worship disturbs me. Why is America always so insistent on having its heroes? They did the same thing with Bush after 9/11.

That was my biggest concern with Obama. It's not about him per se, it's about the public's willingness to fall for a cult of personality. Scary.

Though as long as he doesn't act on it, and he doesn't appear to want to, I am OK with him as president. Much better than McRobot.

If he fails to act on a decent chunk of it, the people he'll hear from are NOT Republicans, who frankly don't want him to act on any of it. It'll be liberals and Democrats who desperately want universal health care, public works projects, new alternative fuel initiatives, and to get the hell out of Iraq. I wouldn't expect him to succeed on all of it, but he at least has to try.

As long as he doesn't do anything stupid... he's gonna go down as a success.

That's how I feel, too.

Though, as a planning student, I find the bailout to be a pretty damn empty promise thus far. It's so far from being a sharp as it could be (from an infrastructure upgrading perspective), and it's a little sad.

From a rendition case before the 9th Circuit

Quote:
During the campaign, Mr. Obama harshly criticized the Bush administration’s treatment of detainees, and he has broken with that administration on questions like whether to keep open the prison camp at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. But a government lawyer, Douglas N. Letter, made the same state-secrets argument on Monday, startling several judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

“Is there anything material that has happened” that might have caused the Justice Department to shift its views, asked Judge Mary M. Schroeder, an appointee of President Jimmy Carter, coyly referring to the recent election.

“No, your honor,” Mr. Letter replied.

Judge Schroeder asked, “The change in administration has no bearing?”

Once more, he said, “No, Your Honor.” The position he was taking in court on behalf of the government had been “thoroughly vetted with the appropriate officials within the new administration,” and “these are the authorized positions,” he said.

From Mohamed et al v Jeppesen Dataplan, Inc. oral arguments.

Another false promise?

Apparently these were the lines removed according to
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/4551441/UK-government-suppressed-evidence-on-Binyam-Mohamed-torture-because-MI6-helped-his-interrogators.html

Quote:
The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed's genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, "is very far down the list of things they did," the official said.

I read recently about a group of Republicans worried about the same thing. They had heard Rush Limbaugh complain and they agreed with him, as they always do. That's why they're called dittoheads. There was one Representative who disagreed with Rush last week (maybe you read about it) and the dittoheads surrounded him and he had to grovel back and apologize.

So anyway these Republicans followed Rush's advice without question -- when he said that they had to watch out about an Obama "cult of personality" they didn't think! They just reacted! They weren't about to blindly follow anyone in a cult of personality! Their "dittohead" policies of faithfully following Rush prohibited that!!!!

Don't understand why this wasn't included...with unemployment at such at high rate, people can't pay bills and this would be an easy way to get money into the economy, it is a shame that this wasn't worked on/included...

No. 508: Allow penalty-free hardship withdrawals from retirement accounts in 2008 and 2009
The Promise:
"Obama and Biden are calling for legislation that would allow withdrawals of 15% up to $10,000 from retirement accounts without penalty (although subject to the normal taxes). This would apply to withdrawals in 2008 (including retroactively) and 2009."

The Update:
