Of course he should lose his committee chairmanship. He's not a democrat.

He's registered as an independent, and he won his seat by defeating a democrat. Then he endorsed the republican and campaigned for him. Then he campaigned for other republicans running for other seats. Then he made comments that it would be terrible for the nation if the democrats got 60 seats in the Senate.

What the hell did he expect to happen to his chairmanship position?

On the other, as an independent, Lieberman should be free to question both parties without fear of retaliation.

Why is that? If he is dependent on democrats for his chairmanships, he shouldn't have so publicly opposed their nominee, simple as that. He's free to do what he wants but the Democrats are totally understandable in stripping him of his committee chairmanships.

I don't think the Dems have to worry too much about him still voting with them as if he votes against them on some issues he might get thrown out of office by his constituents.

Speaking as a CTer, chuck him out so we'll have more incentive to do so in 2012. He's like political herpes.

The Democrats not only don't owe him anything in terms of caucuses or committees, they simply CAN'T TRUST HIM. This is a guy who endorsed the opposition candidate for president AND the downticket candidates as well.

So he's perfectly free to vote and campaign for what he wants in a democracy. But in party politics, I hope he gets what's coming to him.

No, what ever happened to checks and balances, getting rid of him would make the democrats no better than the republicans of the last 8 years.

Lieberman's BFFs across the aisle want him to join them in the wilderness. Joe's resisting for some reason. Can't imagine why.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has reached out to Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) about the prospect of joining the Republican conference, but Lieberman is still bargaining with Democratic leaders to keep his chairmanship, according to Senate aides in both parties.

"Senator Lieberman's preference is to stay in the caucus, but he's going to keep all his options open," a Lieberman aide said. "McConnell has reached out to him and at this stage his position is he wants to remain in the caucus but losing the chairmanship is unacceptable."

A Republican Senate aide said Friday morning that there was little McConnell could offer in terms of high ranking committee slots, which is why Lieberman is resisting overtures from the Republican side.
