There are a lot of rational people who support Obama and have given lots of good reasons. Did you listen to Powell's endorsement?

So, just to be clear: When a white Republican looks at the candidates and makes a rational decision to support Obama, it's not because of race.

But if a black Republican does the same thing, it is because of race? Black people are unable to come to rational conclusions about who could be the best candidate on their own?

But then you're discounting the very real possibility of someone choosing someone because of race. It's like you don't even think it's a possibility which is just not rational.

I am discounting the fact that Colin Powell, a rational man who is highly regarded and who gave his exact reasons for supporting Obama, is choosing him because of race. I am also challenging the fact that many white Republicans have supported Obama for rational reasons that have nothing to do with race.

Why are you holding Powell to a different standard? Why can't he make this decision rationally? Why do you automatically assume he only chooses candidates because of race? He certainly didn't endorse Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or Carol Mosley-Braun.

I wasn't referring to Powell, I was talking about people in the general population.

I remember hearing a joke that is more true than some would like to admit.

You can make the same argument against Obama. A recent poll showed that 12% of the population said that they wouldn't vote for someone because of his race (only 5% actually said they wouldn't specifically vote for a black president, but the rest just said race). Let's realize that African-Americans are only 13% of the population in the US. So assuming that every black votes for Obama and every racist hypocrite votes for McCain, it should even out.

My original comment was about Powell, and you responded by asking if it was possible people could be voting based on race. How else am I supposed to interpret that?

But to respond: Yes, some people will vote based on race. They will also vote on whether the candidate shares their religion, their sex, their place of birth, or likes the same sports team they do, and many other things. Candidates encourage this by highlighting these things and claiming to be "just like you!"

However, very few will ignore everything else about a candidate and vote SOLELY on these matters, as seen by the fact that previous black candidates for President rarely got the majority of their own people to vote for them.

The whole problem is that there are McCain idiots out there who think to themselves "How in the world can people be supporting this guy? I disagree with him on every issue, and since everyone else thinks exactly like me, it has to be for some other reason! It MUST be because of his race!"

The inability for many conservatives to understand how people can logically and reasonably have different views from them is part of the problem here. I mean, come on, "tolerance" isn't exactly one of the things the GOP is known for.

BKB is voting for McCain because he's white. End of story.

Usually black people overwhelmingly support the Democratic candidate regardless of race or gender.

Instead of pointing fingers maybe Republicans should stop and think why black people almost NEVER vote Republican??

And some white people are probably going to vote for Obama because they don't want to be called racist or white guilt, which is a pathetic reason to vote for someone. Calling BKB or anyone racist is a personal attack on the highest level that KJ shouldn't tolerate.
