 Gay Rights
A huge issue in my freaking state, Arizona has a prop that will not let gays marry pretty much forever. Prop 102. I am a senior in high school and I bring a folder to school everyday and on it, next to my Obama bumper sticker and Stop the war in Iraq picture is a huge No on 102 sticker. No, I am not a homosexual, but I believe that they have EVERY right to marry.
Now my school is a terrible place. Full of arrogant sons of bitches who chant "Nobama" every fucking day. Today one of them saw my No on prop 102 sign and they did what every anti gay person does. Called me a queer or fag.
And I feel for the gays and am envious of their courage to be open about it.
So, I am a Blue Teen in a Red State that even after someone wrote Nobama on my folder and tried to take my no on prop 102 picture of my folder still walks around supporting change.
Sorry if some of that didnt make sense or wasnt spelled right. I am very tired.
VOTE NO ON 102!!! (if you live in AZ)

Don't ever feel like you need to preface something like this with, "I'm definitely not gay, but..."

 Re: Gay Rights
Moviegeek, if it's not too personal, can you tell me your high school? Or maybe your town? I have a reason.

 Re: Gay Rights
Friend wanted to know because he also went to high school in AZ, and brought it up when I mentioned this too him. Says he's been there before, he lives in Glendale and attended Ironwood HS. Said his family, except for a few, are going to vote No on it.

 Re: Gay Rights
Anthem is really a big conglomerate of suburban xenophobic fucktards. No surprise that Boulder Creek is a shithole.
I'm Corpse's friend, even though I don't go there, I WENT there. I graduated last year.

 Re: Gay Rights
Yeah Anthem fucking sucks. Very few people want Obama at that school. The rest don't like him because they think he is a Muslim, he'll get shot and cause a race war, socialist, communist, terrorist, and today some kid said that he wants to take rich peoples money away and give it to the poor. Which I responded, "No no no, youre thinking of Robin Hood."

Don't ever feel like you need to preface something like this with, "I'm definitely not gay, but..." Why? I think that's fine. One didn't have to defend his/her whiteness when one was supporting the Civil Rights movement. Kennedy didn't have to get up and say "I'm definitely white, but..." I think its rather important that people who would vote "Yes" on this prop should know that its not just because someone is a homsexual that would cause someone to fight for this right, and that a large part of the heterosexual community believes they should be entitled to the same rights as everyone too. The problematic of sexual preference and orientation is that it isn't always visible on the surface, and closed-minded people make the assumption about your sexuality based purely on your opinion about rights entitlement. The preface is almost necessary in order to break down that myth.

 Re: Gay Rights
on the Arkansas Ballot this year there is one called Prop 1 that will only allow adoption to those who are married. Since gay marriage is not allowed in Arkansas, it is kind of obvious the point of the prop.

 Re: Gay Rights
There seems to be all sorts of these props across the country, Cali being the main focus by far.

 Re: Gay Rights
Another state voting on the issue of same-sex marriage. Maybe they can learn something from this state: People in this state went to the poll in Nov. 2004 and voted to pass this by over 60%. The people have spoken. And the once-vocal opposing side is all silent this election year. P.S. I live in this state.

The preface is almost necessary in order to break down that myth. I just don't think it's necessary, and I don't think it matters. Anyone that is going to disregard your opinion on something because of your sexual preference, or anyone that automatically assumes because you favor gay rights you must be gay yourself, isn't worth your (or anyone's) time. And let me clarify, MovieGeek - I think it's fantastic what you're doing. I just don't think you need to justify or enhance your dedication to the issue by clarifying your sexuality to anyone.

 Re: Gay Rights
I didn't know about prop 102, and in Arizona too. Sure smells like a plot to boost McCain votes by cannibalizing a segment of the public.

I do understand what you mean makeshift; I'm just a pragmatist. Unfortunately, the combination of who you are and what you support is very important to a lot of people, especially when they are first being exposed to new ideas that they previously harbored steretypical notions of. But then again, I remember you almost jumped a cliff four years ago when Kerry lost. You've always had a big heart and a lot more faith in people than I apparently do. Stay you.

AMC 30 sucks. I used to go to AMC 30 for everything, but after my Cloverfield screening which was a fucking nightmare of epic proportions, I decided to start going to the Arrowhead Harkins. I fucking hate teenagers, despite being one myself. EDIT: Heh, Happy Valley. That reminds me, I still haven't been in Castle Boutique. I really want to check that place out for the lulz.
