Post Why I'm a Jackass....
The following story describes me perfectly :shades:

http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/06/history_of_the.php

History of the Democratic Donkey
Quote:
When Andrew Jackson ran for president in 1828, his opponents tried to label him a "jackass" for his populist views and his slogan, "Let the people rule." Jackson, however, picked up on their name calling and turned it to his own advantage by using the donkey on his campaign posters. During his presidency, the donkey was used to represent Jackson's stubbornness

That's exactly what we democrats do

On the other hand the republicans got theirs the same way they behave today "Scare tactics" anyone?

Quote:
The Republican elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled “The Republican Vote.” That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.

Views-

Quote:
The Democrats think of the elephant as bungling, stupid, pompous and conservative -- but the Republicans think it is dignified, strong and intelligent. On the other hand, the Republicans regard the donkey as stubborn, silly and ridiculous -- but the Democrats claim it is humble, homely, smart, courageous and loveable.

You're using Andrew Jackson as a reason that your a Democrat? Hmm, what were some of the issues Jackson was stubborn about...slavery, indian relocation, national bank, etc. He was a real winner.

I'm using the analogy. But you being a republian it's in your nature to take everything literally and out of context. As far as Jackson goes, you would be suprised on my thoughts on slavery.

As far as the banking issue this is what it would have done so I can see why he was against it-

It concentrated the nation's financial strength in a single institution.
It exposed the government to control by foreign interests.
It served mainly to make the rich richer.
It exercised too much control over members of Congress.
It favored northeastern states over southern and western states.

Indian Removal- The law he signed stated that the treaty and removal was to be voluntary and signed off by tribal leaders, however great pressure was placed on these leaders to sign off on it.

Jackson was a bad President by today's standards but he was very popular at the time -- his views on slavery and American Indians were supported by the majority of the population.

Doesn't make it right, but, in context, he wasn't some evil leader imposing his evil will on America. Sadly, most people agreed with him.

Some day people will look back at someone like Clinton or Obama and say "How could he have been a good guy when he opposed gay marriage?" Society changes, and you can't judge them harsher because they don't live up to today's standards.

(You can, however, judge someone better who broke away from the mainstream to fight for rights and so on -- John Quincy Adams comes to mind, if using Jackson's time)

If you're pro slavery (which is what I infer from your sentence because that is the only position that would surprise me) then I really didn't take anything out of context because you stand with Jackson on the issues.

If that really is true, then you truly are a jackass, and I don't see why you are a Democrat.
