 The First Debate
Will it even happen this friday? McCain wants a time out. Due to slipping poll numbers wanting to address the economic crisis. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080924/ap_on_el_pr/mccain

 Re: The First Debate
See a pattern? Hardly any press conferences, no press interviews for Palin...

 Re: The First Debate
He isn't just talking about the debate, he has said he is suspending his campaign for now and returning to Washington.

He has said he doesn't know much about economics so it's not like he's going to be a big help in crafting the bill.

 Re: The First Debate
this will either work out to Obama's favour or McCain may just pulled off a cunning move like he did with Palin.
The thing is, McCain just has to pull off such moves before election day and he can find himself in the white house and leave Obama going "WHY!!!"

 Re: The First Debate
This is a completely political move to try to win back support, just like the Palin pick was. I see no reason not to have the debate...if anything, it shows just how little McCain thinks he can handle. As president, you can't just be like "hold on guys, lets have a time out."
But I fear the American people just might be stupid enough to think this is genuine.

 Re: The First Debate
Taken out of context, but he surely isn't any economic master. Neither is Obama, and I don't expect either of them too be.
What I do expect is them to stop neglecting their job in an actual time of need. This economic crisis is huge, and as a party leader he needs to be there to get the facts and make an informed opinion on the issue, whichever way he decides to go.
I was very annoyed yesterday because both candidates were essentially going to sit out the most important discussion in recent memory, one with arguably longer lasting impact than who wins the election. I'm honestly thrilled that one of them stood up and realized the magnitude of the issue and decided to take part.
That's enough for me, McCain has my vote.

 Re: The First Debate
At first I thought it was a very smart move. But this is very stupid. This is going to bite him in the butt. People will totally see this as McCain trying to win some votes/ popularity. He's abrupt. He's impulsive. Who wants a President that reacts like this?!?!?!
I'm DYING to hear what Obama says. No matter what.. the debate HAS to go on!

 Re: The First Debate
I understand the crisis, but can someone explain the current URGENCY? I mean, is it worse of today than it was last week? I really think that this is another way to trick Americans into fear by the Bush administration. I can't help but wonder if this is all meant to steal the thunder away from Democrats and Obama. A distraction of sorts. Now Bush is planning an address to the nation?!?! LOL Is he really seriously trying to start a panic? That's how it feels to me.

 Re: The First Debate
Interesting move by McCain. If Obama suspends his campaign, it'll make him look like a follower, and McCain will get points for looking like the leader. If Obama doesn't follow suit, it'll make him appear to care less about it. I don't see how he can win this one unless he thinks of a better "plan C".
On the other hand, McCain's strategy could be too transparent and make him appear to be trying to dodge these issues and Obama.

That's enough for me, McCain has my vote. Seriously? That's it? Doesn't matter that McCain will achieve absolutely nothing by doing this. That his economic know-how is next to none, by his own admission. That he risks leaving someone in charge with absolutely no credentials to lead America. That 'all the other shit that McCain brings to the table'. That he was willing to stand up and realise the magnitude of the issue and decided to take part - for good or bad - was enough for you to give him your vote? Fucking world's going to hell.

That's enough for me, McCain has my vote. Quote: At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."

 Re: The First Debate
Guess first reaction from most is just like mine. This is a gimmick on McCain's part. Quick Vote John McCain's request to delay campaigning and this week's debate is: An effort to help the economy 27% 2471 A political gimmick 69% 6436 Something else 4% 372 Total Votes: 9279 CNN Quick Vote Poll

I can just see him now, huddled up with his calculator in a locked study. Doing all he can to avoid another grilling from the press and a trouncing from Obama fix America's economy single-handedly.
