The Dark Knight wrote: that Toyota Prius isn't even his. Nice to see both sides lying equally. Look, I'll spell it out for you because you are obviously missing the point: This is not about who owns more cars or houses really. Who cares? What does that have to do with being a good President? Some of our best Presidents were very wealthy. It's about hypocricy. It's about McCain saying that the guy who grew up being raised by his grandparents, who lived on food stamps for a while, who worked his way through college and law school and just recently finished paying off his student loans is an "elitist" while McCain, by any definition of the word, is an elitist himself, richer than 99.9% of all Americans. It's the hypocricy. Had McCain not attacked Obama for being an "elitist", this would not be an issue in the slightest. |

apart from 2-3 the other cars are not that atypical. Elitist is seen mostly in the way you speak and act. You have seen that Obama has gone back to simple straight talk or down to earth talk instead of resorting to grand oratory. |

Quote: Am I the only one who actually thinks Obama is an elitist? I mean, it kinda comes with the "I think I'm good enough to be the leader of the free world" territory. Why is it a bad thing? In Canada you can be elitist but you have to be a smug bastard who takes no prisoners... aka. Pierre Elliott Trudeau. ![]() |

Is it not possible to be poor or middle class and elitist? I consider President Bush I to be an elitist and Bush II to not be an elitist. |

I think we need an elitist president. Jefferson, Adams, both Roosevelts hell even Lincoln was one. |

Any President who earmarks the parade route on Inauguration Day exclusively for his donors and supporters as Bush II did in 2005 is elitist. As far as I'm concerned, that parade belongs to the people. Now let's consider this video. http://www.pdnpulse.com/2008/08/video-obama-pho.html Quote: At a Barack Obama campaign speech in Ohio Tuesday, a news photographer apparently named John Quinn loudly interrupted the senator and declared that the event should have started with the Pledge of Allegiance. Obama stopped his speech and asked the photographer to lead the group in the Pledge, which he did. The rest of the press then grilled the man with questions. Awkward! Obama talked to this man as a citizen. This incident also serves as a reminder that in exercising our Rights, we also assume full responsibility for our foolishness. Now let's consider this: http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stum ... ester.aspx Nope. Nobody's gonna' rain on my birthday cake. |

All of our founding fathers were elitists for example and didn't have to do with their wealth. I'd say most of our Presidents have been. What has happened is that word has been equaled with wealth and being out touch with the common man. |

There is a difference between being elite and being elitist. "Elite" is being better than everyone else. "Elitist" is thinking you are better than everyone else. |

It is actually not really thinking but people thinking a society should be ruled by superior people. Actually that is really a modern connotation. I want to say the Populist movement is what created that word. You wouldn't have heard any of our founding fathers be called that although Hamilton would be the first that would get branded that. It has worked more in the late 20th century more than the past though. |

I think it's a good idea to have a President who is smarter than the rest of us! Once more, the point of this thread is to point out the hypocricy of the McCain camp. Especially when these same people, four years ago, criticized Kerry for being out of touch for having married a rich woman and having lots of cars and homes. |

OK.... so your criticism of Biden is that he isn't a yes man and he tells the truth? |
