Canada's best Modern Prime Minister...
Well I can see the winner already but lets have a try...
Lets talk about something else then Obama and McCain.
Lets start after Diefenbaker.....
Because no one like Louis St. Laurent and we all love King....
The choices...
John Diefenbaker (1957-1963)-Populist Conservative but the Avro Arrow was his demise
Lester B. Pearson (1963-1998)-Brought in Canada's new flag and medicare and really started the Liberal Domination
Pierre Elliot Trudeau (1968-1984)-A lot to be said, one of the most liked and most hated but most well known figure in Canadian history. When he died in 2000 did we realize how big a figure he was to Canada.
-Changed the Constitution, brought in Bilingualism and Multiculturalism and led Canada through some dark times in the 70's.
-Hated for The National Energy Program, For suspending Human rights in response to Terrorists threats and huge amounts of deficits and for hating Albertans...
Joe Clark (1980)-Won against Trudeau but was then defeated and is seen as a joke.
John Turner (1984)-The aftermath of Trudeau reign destroyed his life
Brian Mulroney (1984-1993) -Our version of Ronald Regan with his personality and won the most impressive victory ever
-Transformed the Canadian economy with NAFTA and his unpopular GST saved Canada from Fiscal disaster in latter years
-Tried hard to fix Trudeau's mistakes but made them worse
-A disgrace to the whole concept of Conservative with his spend thrift ways...
Kim Campbell (1993)-Canada's first female PM yet Mulroney shadow destroyed her like Turner
Jean Chrétien (1993-2003)-Won three majority Govts in a row only King and Laurier did that though keeping a steady hand and being very fiscally conservative early on
-Saved Canada from financial disaster and detached Canada from Bush American Foreign policy with not supporting the Invasion of Iraq.
-he either saved Canada from breaking apart in 1995 or helped it...
-His reputation was high until a corruption scandal came up in the last four years.
Paul Martin (2003-2006)-He was brought in like a King and he was very well liked and it seemed, the Liberals would rule forever however a scandal broke out and it ended there. One of the biggest political disappointments in Canadian history.
Stephen Harper (2006-Present)
-Man who won a minority and is trying hard to make Canada a conservative country.
