She wanted to ban all books that were not pro-Christian, even if they weren't even anti-Christian.

If that were true, this list would be a helluva lot longer.

For now. She is getting way too overexposed to quickly, hence why mccain is trying to keep a lid on her appearences. What goes up must come down, give her time. There will be a backlash.

Aren't we kind of missing the fact she still nearly fired the librarian for more than likely not wanting to censor books.

"We" are not. The people in this forum are, granted, a self-selected group, but we seem to know what's what about Palin.

I'm pretty sure I just heard somewhere that this is one of those "not true" things.

True, the left wing is trying to get nasty but admit it they are years behind the republicans in experience with negative attacks.

Not only would I not deny it, I've been agreeing on that with you these past few posts. They are much better at being nasty because they have no regard whatever for the truth. Obama has to couch his attacks in something that approaches reality. The McCain camp is not restricted by such parameters.

Where we disagree is on your notion that Dems must lower themselves to that level, that the ends justify the means.

It's not. She wanted the option to ban books, but never tried to do it.

Quote:
The stories are all suggestive, but facts are hard to come by. Did Palin actually ban books at the Wasilla Public Library?

…Were any books censored banned? June Pinell-Stephens, chairwoman of the Alaska Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee since 1984, checked her files Wednesday and came up empty-handed.

Pinell-Stephens also had no record of any phone conversations with Emmons about the issue back then. Emmons was president of the Alaska Library Association at the time.

From one of the quotes above...

These lines tell the whole story. She didn't Ban anything and no one has any record of her Trying to Ban anything. All we have is a former librarian's story to go on. This is a unsubstantiated smear attempt.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/ ... 0259.shtml

There's been a list making the rounds lately, showing books that Sarah Palin allegedly tried to ban from Wasilla's public library during her mayoral tenure. The list isn't true, and in some instances, doesn't even make sense (some the books hadn't even been published in 1996, when the incident is alleged to have occurred).

More ammunition against this nonsense...

http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/bannedbooks.asp

Quote:
Given that, as yet, there is no documentation of any books having been banished from the Wasilla library by Mayor Palin, or even of which books she may have had in mind when she broached the subject, whence comes the considerable register of tomes now being circulated as "the list of books Palin tried to have banned"? The purging of the selections enumerated here from a public library would surely outrage any educator or book lover, with the listing including classics of literature by authors from William Shakespeare to William Faulkner, works by popular contemporary writers such as Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, and even such seemingly bland reference works as
Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary.

I hope the case on this is now OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

I love how Republican's call every attack on Palin "unsubstantiated" yet they ran their entire 2004 campaign on and an unsubstantiated (actually, proven false) claim made by Karl Ro...I mean "Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth."

Oh, and also that whole getting us into a war on an unsubstantiated claim thing.

It doesn't matter, at this point she could set fire to all the remaining First Folios and go up 5 more points with white women.

Unlike that, none of this stuff has been propagated by the Obama campaign.

The McCain camp itself, however, has accused Obama of wanting to raise taxes of anyone making over $42K, which is untrue. They've accused him of calling Palin a pig, which is untrue. In their most recent commercial, they claim that Obama wants to teach comprehensive sex education to kindergarten kids, which is preposterously untrue. There is no bottom of the barrel for these McCain campaign scumbags.

And that's not even getting into the rumor stuff like this. Rush Limbaugh and the right-wing blogosphere have claimed that Obama wants to kill newborn babies. And they're going to get all pissy over a rumor about library books?

I don't know about that, but certainly she could do nothing that the wingnutosphere would not embrace her for. I've marveled at the unmitigated gall of these people to accuse Obama supporters or deifying him after 8 years of supporting a man who claims that Jesus chose him to lead this country. But then these are people without principles or shame.

This could backfire in a very nice way...

Random Evangelical: Palin, you had the chance to ban A Clockwork Orange, and you didn't?! WHY?

Keep in mind: a large portion of the Republican voting base thinks censorship is perfectly reasonable. And they're coming to an Internet near you...

Except for Troilus and Cressida (can't remember if both a folio and quarto version exist), I would vote for Obama if she burned any of the folios.

If I was smart enough, my dream job would be working at the Folger Library in D.C., but I would also be happy just meeting Frank Kermode.
