 The Republican Convention
If Gustav hits New Orleans early next week, which we don't know yet if it will but if it does - how do you see that affecting the convention?

God's vengeance for His name being used in vain, for all the wingnuts that prayed for the heavens to rain in Denver. Actual effect? Depends on if a levee breaks again.

 Re: The Republican Convention
ThinkProgress asked Rev. Hagee’s spokesperson, Kara Silverman, whether Gustav’s possible impact on the Republican National Convention might be seen as punishment against Republicans for their not having done enough to combat the “homosexual agenda,†or whether this storm could be attributed to some other target of divine wrath.
Ms. Silverman said Hagee had “no comment.†

You think if it is Katrina bad they postpone the thing? It would look really awful on their part to be parting when some part of the gulf coast is a mess.

Who was that conservative preacher who wanted his congregation to pray for rain on Obama's parade?
Guess we know what God thought of that...

 Re: The Republican Convention
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... id=topnewsQuote: GOP Considers Delaying Convention Tropical Storm Gustav Is Forecast to Hit U.S. Next Week as Hurricane
Republican officials said yesterday that they are considering delaying the start of the GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul because of Tropical Storm Gustav, which is on track to hit the Gulf Coast, and possibly New Orleans, as a full-force hurricane early next week.
The threat is serious enough that White House officials are also debating whether President Bush should cancel his scheduled convention appearance on Monday, the first day of the convention, according to administration officials and others familiar with the discussion.

I just really hope New Orleans doesn't get hit with another hurricane. They've been through enough.

True, but you have to admit that the thought of a bunch of Republicans trapped in a convention center because of a hurricane in New Orleans has a great sense of poetic justice to it.

And yet they'd spin it as "staying the course and sticking with the city during the storm," and then proceed to somehow label the Dems cowardly flip-floppers and manage a 6 point jump in the polls.

I'm interested to listen to two of oklahoma's two most popular politicians who will be speaking there at some point, Mayor Mick Cornett and Congresswoman Mary Fallin.

Anyone know the featured Speakers for each day?
I think I read Bush is speaking on Day 1, any news for the rest of the week?

 Re: The Republican Convention
ST. PAULâ€â€President Bush is unlikely to make it to the Republican National Convention and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) may deliver his acceptance speech by satellite because of the historically huge hurricane threatening New Orleans, top officials said.
But officials insisted that the convention, scheduled to open here on Monday, will go onâ€â€albeit in a more limited and sedate formâ€â€even if Hurricane Gustav stays on its projected path. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered a mandatory evacuation beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday after federal officials said Gustav could grow to a catastrophic Category 5 and hit Monday afternoon somewhere between eastern Texas and western Mississippi.
McCain made plans to travel to a threatened area of the Gulf coast on Sunday, accompanied by his wife, Cindy, and running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R). They planned to meet Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) in Jackson, Miss., aides said.
McCain was scheduled to deliver his acceptance speech Thursday but now may do so from the devastation zone if the storm hits the U.S. coast with the ferocity feared by forecasters.http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/13013.html

If Schwarzenegger really isn't going then that is a blow but hopefully Gustav turns out to be a mild hurricane when it reaches land so McCain and Palin can bring back focus to the convention.

Schwarzenegger is reportedly not supposed to be there because of some stuff going on with a bill in california.

 Re: The Republican Convention
So what does a weaker hurricane mean for the convention? It is still bad enough that the networks will cover it through tomorrow. I guess they could have a 2 day convention of course the football game is on thursday so i think this will be a wash for the Republicans.
