Here's what McCain said when Ellen asked him why she shouldn't be able to marry her long-time partner.

"I think that people should be able to enter into legal agreements and it’s something that we should encourage, particularly in the case of insurance and other areas and decisions that have to be made. I just believe in the unique status of marriage between a man and a woman and I know that we have a respectful disagreement on that issue.”

The problem is that McCain OPPOSES civil unions as well as gay marriage. He just lied to Ellen's face.

And saying that he "respectfully" disagrees is like saying to someone, "I respectfully disagree with your notion that you're entitled to equal rights." There's nothing respectful about it.

I know, it's complete bull. That would be the same thing as someone telling a white woman who wanted to marry a black man (or vica versa) that they respectfully disagree with their right to marry because it should be between a white man and a white woman. Apparently as long as "I respectfully disagree with_________" precedes whatever racist/sexist/homophobic/etc statement you're about to make then it's okay to refuse anyone their basic human rights!

Also, the whole part where he says "I just believe in the unique status of marriage between a man and a woman" is absolutely sickening for the fact that the only "reason" someone would have to oppose gay marriage is religion.

I don't mean to start up that whole argument (as how can one argue with a wall?) and I'm all for people having the freedom to participate in whatever pure nonsense they want, with the one exception being that one person's freedom shouldn't take away someone else's.

How is it just that Group A can do exactly what they want, including trying to ban gay marriage in this instance, in the name of "religious freedom" but Group B--being gays--have no recourse because doing so somehow steps on toes of the god-fearing and small minded?

These people don't believe in "religious freedom" when banning gay marriage any more than they do "academic freedom" when forcing creationism into science class. Freedom, in fact, is antithetical to their belief system. So, apparently, is intellectual honesty.

Besides, wouldn't using the Bible as a justification for any law (provided one believes that the Bible rejects homosexuality wholesale) violate the First Amendment?

On the subject of lies about gay marriage, here's Rick "Man on Dog" Santorum:

"Look at Norway. It began allowing same-sex marriage in the 1990s. In just the last decade, its heterosexual-marriage rates have nose-dived and its out-of-wedlock birthrate skyrocketed to 80 percent for firstborn children. Too bad for those kids who probably won’t have a dad around, but we can’t let the welfare of children stand in the way of social affirmation, can we?

But what about love? That’s the question a student asked this winter when I spoke at Georgetown University.

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too? Marriage is and always has been more than the acknowledgment of the love between two people."

This guy proves time and time again what a giant idiot he is. It probably wouldn't surprise you to learn that NONE of what he said about Norway is actually true.

And then he compares the love he has for his brother with a romantic gay relationship.

Santorum is such a stupid piece of shit.

And the creme de la creme, from anti-gay group Save California, comparing gay marriage with the gassing of Jews:
