I received this in an e-mail. Usually I delete these... this was slightly interesting.

Can anyone verify any of this?

Quote:
This is pretty interesting stuff and makes me wonder how much more change we can stand.

There are 3 Parts.

For your consideration-

Part 1
In just one year. Remember the election in 2006?
Thought you might like to read the following:

A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet;

2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase) ;

4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!
Remember it's Congress that makes law NOT the President. He has to work with what's handed to him

Quote of the Day........'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it.' — Barack Obama

Part 2:
Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.
www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html

Taxes under Clinton 1999
Taxes under Bush 2008

Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 30K - tax $4,500

Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 50K - tax $12,500

Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Single making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000

Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates. It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

PART 3:
You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much? Read this:
Boy, am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us. I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.

Yes, they are that stupid. Two wrongs don't make a right. Murdering your father does not become acceptable just because you also murder your mother.

What America needs a change from is the complete absence of intelligence in foreign policy. Republican leadership is filled with people that think and talk like Kevin James, brainless dolts hell bent upon propounding ignorance with unparalleled ignorance. Ignorance, that's the word. It's not just getting out of Iraq, it's getting rid of the mindset that got us into Iraq. America cannot survive more leadership that legitimizes stupidity. Everything else is irrelevant if we are ruled by people proud of their stupidity.

As for the email's content...

The first section means nothing. Congress has nothing to do with the issue, just as Bush has nothing to do with it. Blaming a Democratic Congress for our economic woes is even more ludicrous than blaming the president. Bush's main problem is pretending economic problems did not exist.

The second section is misleading. Those figures, technically, are true. However, anybody that has actually filed a full tax return knows how complex the tax code is. The writer conveniently forgets to mention our massive budget deficit and colossal current account deficit, both of which are causing macroeconomic imbalances. Money does not come out of nowhere. We have borrowed a trillion dollars from China, and the US Dollar has fallen by almost HALF against the Euro. While the concept of low taxes is laudable, deficits are not. Democrats are more likely to create a balanced budget than Republicans at this point.

The third section is just a rant. The writer is trying to justify a pointless war in Iraq with immigration statistics. :funny: While I agree with strong immigration policy in principle, reality gets in the way. Mass deportation would cause tremendous disruptions in the labor market. A more practical solution would involve border security and amnesty rolled into one. Yes, a wall.

When you start debunking just some of it and realize how utterly full of shit it is, it kind of just gets boring - and frustrating that anyone would BOTHER to believe any of it.

The quote from Obama is complete fiction. It's not even a verbal slip. He simply never said any such thing.

The tax numbers are completely bogus as well, since they apply marginal tax rates (the highest tax rate) as average tax rates and don't make ANY deductions, even the basic personal deduction that everyone gets.

The Part 1 numbers are meaningless unless one compares overall trends. The same bogus comparison was made by Republicans with Clinton on the unemployment rate. Even though the trend for Clinton was lower unemployment while it was on its way up for Bush, the frozen number at a comparable point in their presidencies seemed to show the opposite.

I clicked on those links and there are alot of rants against muslims and hispanics (both legal and illegal). One of them even blames hispanics as the leading factor in HIV and disease in america. It definately makes Klan members happy

Oh, you actually clicked on the links? Mama mia! Man, what are these people going to do fifty years from now when America becomes a majority-minority nation?

Post subject:  Re: Tell Me What You Think.

I literally picked on one of the links at random, #9. First of all, the poster conspicuously fails to mention the cost of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is costing us roughly $12.3 BILLION per MONTH.

So #9 says: "$200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.
Verify at: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/ ... dt.01.html"

Apparently, the Republican target audience is either too stupid to read or too enraged by brown people to bother clicking on the links. The "verification" is a transcript from CNN's anti-immigration stooge Lou Dobbs. But even if that's not enough, here's what Dobbs actually says:

DOBBS: That economy, we know the estimates by the most authoritative and recent study put the suppressed wages at $200 billion a year, as a result of immigration, both legal and illegal. He offers no specific breakdown between the two, but the poster doesn't care. He lies anyway.

Of course they also fail to note that the economy is cyclical. So yes, while at the end of 2005/2006 we were at a high point (consumer confidence, soaring home sales etc.) you can't maintain that momentum forever. Eventually, the market enters a recession/correction (we are not technically in a recession yet, either), which is what happened soon after the Democratic congress took office. They also inherited a lot of problems left by the Republican congress and so while there may be changes looming it was too late to stop the tidal wave.

I agree. It is what Sir Stephen would call truthiness. For instance, it is true taxes are now lower, but at the cost of tremendous deficits and macroeconomic imbalances. It's like saying "yes, I lost thirty pounds, but at the cost of cutting off a leg." McCain needs stress real fiscal discipline, not superficial fixes such as earmark elimination that wouldn't cover a quarter our deficit.
