People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
Not whether you like him or not, but whether you think he will become the next president. Yeah?

Re: People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
He has to win the Republican nomination, and that is very much in doubt. If he can't win Florida, I don't think he can win the nomination.
No, I don't think he can win.

At this point, McCain seems the favorite to me too. But both Hillary and Obama could evolve and get more skilled as candidates. They have less experience in running for the presidency than McCain does and will probably get better.

Re: People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
No, Richardson or Kuucinich, Biden, Dodd, any of the drop outs could beat any of the REP candidates, in my opinion. So Clinton, Obama, or Edwards wouldnt lose. The DEM turnout and excitement this election year is just too massive. The turnout is suppose to be higher in SC than the REP turnout, and that is REALLY saying something. Not to mention record turnout in every state so far, and Im willing to bet each and every state will have record turnout on the DEM side. So the percentage/turnout in NOV isnt going to be balanced at all.

Re: People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
McCain genuinely frightens me, because I think he is by far the most electable of the Republican candidates.
I still kind of don't think he'll get the nomination, though.

Definitely. He wouldn't find it hard to collect anti-Hillary voters in case she wins the Democratic nomination. Many independents, and certainly undecided Republicans, would line up behind him.

McCain will definitely be the Republican vying for the White House come November. He will just certainly lose to a Democrat.

Yep.
Assuming Hillary will win the Dem nomination (99% certainty), many swing Democrats and Independents will slice off their nose to spite the face that is America.
Very sad but true.

If a vote for McCain is slicing off my nose, a vote for Clinton would be slicing off my penis.

McCain's formidable lead over him in NY and NJ, two winner-take-all states, still matter a lot though.

Re: People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
Right now I'd say it's kind of a longshot because of his stance on the war, but if he can pick up some momentum against Romney, I think he'd have a good shot against either Obama or Clinton. And if Huckabee ends up out of the hunt, and he can pick up the Evangelicals, then he's almost a shoe-in.
Personally, I wouldn't mind so much if he got in (especially over Clinton and Romney) because even though I'm a moderate leaning towards liberal, and even though he's for the war, he's the only one who I feel isn't bullshitting me with everything he says. He probably is, but it doesn't come across that way.

This is what kind of man McCain is: "I promised to tell the truth always about my intentions and beliefs. I fell short of that standard in South Carolina," McCain said. "While my response was factually accurate, it did not answer how I personally felt about the flag." http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITIC ... mccain.sc/

If he wins the nom then it's very likely he'll win.

Ted Kennedy is endorsing Obama, and going to campaign with him. Somewhere McCain is smiling, if Obama becomes the nominee this is good news for him. He'll probably use clips of them in ads.

I take it back. At the moment it looks like John McCain. Romney seems to be running out of gas and I think McCain will probably beat Clinton or Obama. I wish it wasn't true.

Re: People Who Think McCain Will Become the Next US President
McCain is the front runner for now. And if he gets the nom and with whoever is the nominee on the Dem side, one thing is for certain and that is that the neocons, freepers, ditto-heads, redstaters, and the 28%ers do not have a candidate in this fight. And that's a GREAT thing. They hate McCain. They hate him for working with Dems. They hate him for opposing torture. They hate him for being soft on illegal immigrants. For them to be marginalized is nothing but a net good for the country. Quote: I think McCain will probably beat Clinton or Obama. The only person in the race the freepers and dittoheads hate more than McCain is Hillary. So in a McCain-Hillary match-up, I'd expect them to get out the vote for the Republican candidate no matter how much they dislike him. In a McCain-Obama race, I'd expect them to stay home in disgust. So I think McCain has a harder time against Obama. Not to say Obama could beat him (although I think he could), but it would be a lot closer. But either scenario is entirely speculative on my part.

I think Gerald Ford was arguably better looking then Jimmy Carter and Goldwater was a smidge better looking then Johnson.

Paul running might take a small chunk out of McCain's support. Conventional wisdom seems to be, though, that a Clinton/Obama ticket, or the other way around, would likely discourage Bloomberg from mounting a run.
