Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.
"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."
However she feels about the way her story has been told in the press, Palin told WMAL she is not discouraged.
"It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans. But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington," Palin said.

This is America. We are civilized here. Well, parts of it are civilized enough to prevent the others from becoming Mad Max or Liberia.

All that says is that Obama has a lot of younger voters who can use a computer.

Are you being serious or sarcastic?
not everything people say is for the greater good. hate speeches being one example.

Yes, but who gets to decide these things? Do you trust the government to decide that? What if they decide what YOU are saying is "hate speech"?
That's why I cringe whenever people talk about taking away freedom of speech for someone else. If you open that door, who's to say your speech isn't next?
Jeez, she just made a whole coalition of Young Democrats from that alone. I hope one of the kids eggs her house next time.

that is for a court to decide. but then i suppose u need to have fair judges and thats a lost cause with the way America is.
the US Supreme Court is a joke.
I agree that I don't want some court deciding what speech is OK and what speech is not.
Seriously, think this through: isn't it better to allow all speech to be protected? If someone says something hateful, the best response is to say something against it. Let our speech overwhelm theirs. Censoring is a dangerous trap.
i don't know. i think maybe the people who wrote their constitution were too busy whipping their slaves to write something more decent.
i'd be more than happy to go in front of a jury of 12 sane people and a judge proven to be something as close to Switzerland in terms of being neutral.
i have a bit more faith in the Australian judicial system, so it seems, even in a country without the Bill of Rights than i would in a US one.
oh and censorship is already has its grip in America. its quite clear that in some states and laws there still seems to be no separation between Church and State.

Re: 2008 General Election Thread
I talked to a very good friend on mine today who is an evangelical Christian here in Puerto Rico. He’s extremely religious and has very conservative beliefs. Nonetheless with the election upcoming the topic of discussion moved to politics. I asked him if he had the opportunity to vote, for whom would he vote. He told me that he, as well as 99.9% of the evangelical Christians in Puerto Rico, would vote for Obama. Obviously our conversation was in Spanish, but he basically said that he was extremely disappointed with the war-mongering that the Republican party had done the past 8 years and that many of the initiatives that they started have benefited the wealthy.
Of course, one needs to have in mind that everyone here would support Obama, but I found his thoughts to be very interesting coming from someone who if he lived in the US would most likely be one of the few evangelicals to support Obama.
