 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
Loyal and I are probably in the same position.
Neither of use like Obama or McCain all that much, and what was a super exciting election fell flat on it's face. I won't vote for McCain, and I'm still undecided on Obama. Tonight, and the next few days will probably help me make a decision on Obama though.

But consider........the race is close...so in this case note voting for Obama means a vote for McCain because everything counts........and you cant hurt those poor little Europeans here on WOKJ by letting McCain win!

Gore didn't really shine until the third debate in 2000, and by that time, he was already defined, unfairly or not, and it became an uphill battle. If Obama could get 85% of Democrats' votes, he will win for sure.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
Kerry got 89% of all DEM votes in 2004, Bush 93% of all REP votes, with Independents evenly split. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/ ... lls.0.htmlIt's going to take alot more than getting 90+% of your party voting for you, even if the DEMs registered many new votes this year due to the primary race. You'll have to keep those voters interested, and turn them out at the polls. And unfortunately, most of those new voters are younger voters who aren't all that reliable come November. Maybe they'll turn out this time, but it's important to remember they turned out in huge numbers during the primary and they still couldn't match the old vote. Basically, I think Obama will have to improve on almost every single area from 2004. If you look at those exit polls, Bush simply beat Kerry all around. The women vote being basically 50/50 is particularly annoying.

Im not sure the debates will be the way we expect. I expect Obama to win them and the presidency, however i dont think the debates will eb THAT onesided. Obama hardly ever really tries to mudsling in person; though when he wants to hes effective and quite witty just watch the hillary debates ("I didnt say that my husband did"-"sometimes i dunno who im running against"). What Obama will have to do is the play the nice but more intelligent role as he played hillary; if he does hell make mccain look like the bumbling fool bush did in the 2000 debates.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
Obama didn't do very well in the debates with Hillary though. I think it's fair to say she "won" the majority of them, and they did help her in the immediate contests a little. Why do you think she wanted to do debates every day in the final weeks of the primary?
He'll need to do very well, and it will require being tough. He simply can't afford to appear weak and not ready a few weeks before the election. It's one of the Democrats biggest mistakes, most are just too soft and don't take the chance to attack when needed.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
No she didnt. She might have won with critics; but she made herself look bad amongst people. That cant be argued.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
If they hurt her amongst the voters, she probably wouldnt have won New Hampshire. The South Carolina Debate did turn many off though, but it's really the only one I can think of, though it was a biggie. And I'm sure the California Debate helped her there. Every Poll had Obama with a comfortable (just like in New Hampshire), but int he final days Hillary was able to change reverse that. And she did very well in the PA debate, and if she turned off voters I don't think she would have won the state by the margin the majority of polls were showing. A combination of appearing strong and ready through debates, and with late deciders who always went for her. She found what hurt Obama towards the end of FEB, and right before OH/TX. Attack, attack, attack. She was very effective in the final months of the primary (she was running a REP campaign), just like Obama was in the first few months. Obama will need to do the about same against McCain, at least the DEMS will, but Obama can't sit back and let Biden do it all, that'll hurt him even more.. The last few days can, and will decide swing states. Can't afford to be passive then.

Hillary sucked ass at the debates. She sounded and came off exactly how you would think... bitchy.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
It's not really about "winning" or "losing" either. More about what you gain/loss coming out of that debate. And the only debate Hillary loss anything coming out of was the South Carolina debate. All the other debates gave her a needed boost in New Hampshire, California, and Pennsylvania. California and Pennsylvania would have likely went for Hillary anyway, but not by the margin they did. She may have attacked unfairly once the OH/TX contests were right around the corner, and rarely let up. But, she kept Obama from any wins for 2 entire months (edit, I think Obama won maybe... Wyoming a week or so after OH/TX, but that was it until North Carolina) by attacking him. She was very strong from March 03 - May 05.
I want Obama to win just as much (if not more now since knowing the guy that beat my candidate lost is very annoying to think about) as any other Democrat or Obama supporter. But I do not want him to make the same mistakes Kerry did. Kerry simply wasn't tough enough when he needed to be. Obama can still keep on message AND go right after McCain and the Republicans. He doesn't have to make a decision. Both are very much possible to do. Being tough, and knowing how to win when it's needed is something I admire about the Clinton's. Very few can do it better than them.

 Re: McCain Vs. Obama
Yeah, exactly; I know the breakdowns of last exit polls, and that's why I think 85% will be more than enough. Kerry lost by only 2%, and Democrats registration has gone up significantly since then. It's certainly not going to be even again between the number of voters in the two parties this time. And McCain is not going to get 93% of the Rep votes either. Obama is only getting about 70% of Dems in recent polls and still statistically tied; another 15% would worth another 5%.

Quote: Most people agree that Obama did not win the majority of the debates. No the people who think Obama won where just focusing on his personality and already think Hilary is the Antichrist. Obama is not very good in debates, he is now where as articulate when he talks about issues and policy, however he gives a good sermon.

After looking at the two tax plans i've started to sway back to McCain. Obama's tax plan scares the crap out of me when it comes to my family.

I really started to dislike Obama for acting like he is Moses or some great man.
That celebrity style appearance was so over the top.
