Re: Repub nominee watch - Santorum sweeps mini-Tuesday
Snowe is retiring http://news.yahoo.com/maine-republican- ... -news.htmlThis is bad news for Republicans. Brown's seat is very vulnerable, and Kerrey is running for the Nebraska seat. The democrats will probably keep the Senate because of those two moves.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Santorum sweeps mini-Tuesday
"Well of course basic spending needs to be done, but the time for massive new infrastructure spending has gone by. The 90's were the best time for this. We had enough money back then, before we shot ourselves in the foot giving rich guys huge tax breaks." That too and plus 2 big wars and ridiculous levels of spending that occur till this day. The reality is that nothing will drive type of massive economic growth that we say in the 90's or after WW2. Green Jobs are overrated (and the Chinese are ahead of us). So the crushing debt load put on the country will be a huge burden on the US. The only solution is to massively reduce spending or raise taxes or both. Both solutions have disadvantages. Massive spending cuts will slow down the economy while massive tax increases will hurt the economy as well. We must remember we will live in an different era from the past. We can wage a war against business, but business can now easily close shop and move and we have seen that happen. Believe it or not the US has a rather high corporate tax rate then many other countries (even Canada). The problem is many other countries have a lower rate but collect taxes from almost all corporations at that rate. While in the US, tax breaks and loopholes allow many companies end up paying little to no tax at all. So an easy solution is to close the loopholes and collect tax at a lower to stay competitive with the world. I agree with Obama's plan on corporate taxation as its one of the few sensible moderate things he has thought of. I do not expect the congress or senate to change much. Likely some Republicans will lose their seats in Congress. The problem is the democrats in congress are the biggest wimps I have ever seen.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Santorum sweeps mini-Tuesday
I think Romney could use Michigan, but Santorum needed it. Gallup now has Romney up by 5 nationally. I don't think Santorum will find an upward trajectory again. I think it's just about over.

Yeah, Romney will win most likely, but I don't see Santorum throwing in the ring for another month.

It doesn't seem like any of them are quitting after Super Tuesday. I can understand Paul continuing as he wants to keep his message going but Gingrich and Santorum need to just get out of the way after ST.

He should win North Dakota, Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. He could even steal Georgia from Gingrich. All of those states have very conservative voters who will vote for Santorum over Romney. Romney will continue to have trouble with that wing of the party. Gingrich though should drop out after ST and probably will if he loses Georgia.

Hell, we even have money now if you slashed defense. There's also the other issue of how states get their money.

Romney's ahead by double digits again nationally. If he wins Ohio that should seal it.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Santorum sweeps mini-Tuesday
We can slash defense but the only thing the US is dominate in the world over everyone is our military.
Slashing and burning the military would reduce one of the pillars of American dominance. The other two are Social/Cultural and economic.
I think cutting spending on military operations in other countries should occur.

I don't think anyone wants to "slash/burn" the military. We need to be reasonable and curtail this bloated military.

One thing I want to add all this cultural war crap including Rush "Jabba the Hutt" Limbaugh calling a young woman a slut and then this birther crap coming from that Sheriff Joe in Arizona does the Republicans no favors. It makes them look like a bunch of loons or hatefu, sexistl men.

Also she has a point about contraceptives being used for medical reasons. I have a friend that needs to keep from getting cysts and it helps her alot that her insurance covers it. Also Limbaugh is a fat pig and I hope more advertisers pull their adds.

When did people pride themselves on being assholes? Even still, a government that supports population control through non-violent, relatively inexpensive means should be seen as effective.

Frankly the biggest radio hosts from both sides are usually jackasses. Of course the ones on the right take it to a whole new level.

The left don't really have many radio jocks. I guess you could argue someone like Bill Maher but he isn't as bad except maybe on the issue or religion.

So Romney promises to cut taxes 20%, increase military spending, and balance the budget...right.

I don't think there is any irony.

Makes me laugh sometimes at the irony.. Well Maher hates all religions equally. I have heard him make fun of muslims. I like watching his show because of the format, and at least he does bring on Republicans and he is very civil to them.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Santorum sweeps mini-Tuesday
I will give you that and its easy for to get along with level headed moderate Republicans.
Also its easy to attack Islam. I respect many aspects of it but there is no denying it has many faults. When people attack Jesus they deny his existence rather then what he did. Its much easier to attack Christianity then Jesus. With Islam, forget about the problems with the religion, many people directly challenge many things the Prophet Mohammed did.
The Story about the Prophet Mohammed marrying a 9 year old is usually the story I always hear about people attacking Islam. I do not follow either religion but personally I think Jesus was a much more better person than Mohammed. Mohammed was fortunate that he had so many family members and friends to help him (his uncle Hamza, his brother in Law Ali and family friends) and that is why he was so successful.
