 Re: "Terrorist" "Kill him!"
This is indeed scary and frightening. Talking to a friend of mine, we both agree that the worst case scenario, even the nightmare scenario, is if Obama is assassinated at any time in the future whether it be now or after the election. If he becomes President, Biden is definitely capable of stepping in, but the fear that would permeate the country would be horrible especially with the media and mass communication that exits today. There are many who remember the JFK assassination and how many seemed to lose hope. JFK was obviously far from perfect (like Obama, but in different ways). Yet, he represented a lot of hope for the people at that time.
There were those who already tried to assassinate Obama in Denver. Of course they had a bad stolen rifle that was incapable of making the shot they needed, but I doubt they are the only ones with those intentions/mindset.

A post-Obama assassination America is an America I would want no part of.
I can't imagine the desolation, hopelessness, and pervasive fear that would encapsulate our society. It would truly set our country back decades.
I dunno, the fact that this is even an open concern is so troubling it's almost hard to fathom.

These threats on his life are scary though, which is why I've had a problem with people joking about it in the past. I know they are not serious, but this clearly shows some are out there.

 Re: "Terrorist" "Kill him!"
10 Presidents (about 1 in 4) have been assassinated or a serious attempt made. You have to figure that Obama would be at high risk just because of his race. But there is also the fact that he is an Islamic terrorist who hates America, does cocaine, and may be wanting to get the Presidency because he hates all white people and wants to get back at them (all things I heard on Fox News Radio the past couple days!). So, this raises the risk even more.
On the good side, it might mean the Secret Service realize this and take extra caution to protect him (no open top cruises in a car around Kentucky or Texas). Also, if they can protect Bush for 8 years (the worst president ever with the lowest approval rating) maybe there is hope for a safe 8 years with Obama.

But that doesn't take away the fact that I would be completely decimated and distraught were it to happen. I certainly hope it doesn't. Most likely on inauguration day they would need at least a mile radius to ensure that no long range rifles could kill him. I know that there are secret service with high power rifles on the top of the White House/other buildings when Bush even walks outside, so I am sure there will be plenty around to help protect Obama if he becomes President.

The snipers on top of the White House are the BEST of the best. They could probably shoot off an ants nuts.

But I'm pretty sure that the rhetoric against Bush never reached this level, and Obama isn't even president yet.

There is open concern because the McCain campaign is DELIBERATELY whipping up the anger and violent ignorance in their base by calling Obama a terrorist. This is not some 3rd party group like the Swift Boaters. This is the McCain campaign itself.

You know, I say it with genuine conviction when I say I'm pretty surprised there hasn't been at least an attempt at Bush's life.
I don't know how many of the people above were kidding, but I would agree... if Bush made it 8 years and still kicking, I think Obama should be fine.

Eh, assassins are crazy to begin with and often don't have any political agenda. Look at the loonies who tried to assassinate Ford (Manson followers) and Reagan ("I want to impress Jodie Foster!").

 Re: "Terrorist" "Kill him!"
An interview with the "He's an Arab" lady. She's a volunteer for the McCain campaign. http://the-uptake.groups.theuptake.org/ ... ew/id/933/Gayle Quinnell: I went to the library in Shakopee and I got lots of … three pages of information about Obama
Adam Aigner of NBC News: And what kind of information did you get?
Quinnell :I got to tell you , you call me. It’s a long story. I’m afraid of what’s going to happen to this country.
Aigner: What would you think would happen? Do you think it would become Muslim country and what would that mean?
Quinnell :It would be bad
Aigner: So even though Senator McCain told you that he didn’t feel that was true and you ought to be more respectful, you still fear that?
Quinnell I still do. Yeah. I’m not alone. I go to Burnsville, the main Republican headquarters and I do a lot of work over there. A lot of sending out mail and talking to people. And all the people agree with what I’m saying to you about Obama.
Aigner :Then do you feel there are a lot of volunteers for McCain who feel that way?
Quinnell Yes. A lot of them. In fact I got a letter from another woman that goes over there to Burnsville and she sent me more things about Obama.
Aigner:What was on the letter?
Quinnell Oh all kinds of bad things about him and how, I mean I have to tell you to call me. It’s all bad.
Reporter: Are a lot of people getting this letter and are a lot of people believeing it and is that turning a lot of votes or support for McCain?
Quinnell Yeah I sent out 400 letters. I went to Kinkos and I got them all printed out. And I sent about 400 letters. I went in the telephone book and sent them out to people. So they can decide if they would want Obama.
Aigner :Can you give me your name again?
Quinnell Gayle Quinnell and I honestly think that these people hear about this Obama, they wouldn’t want him.
Aigner: Because they would know what you know in the letter?
Quinnell Yeah, he read that letter. In fact when I was standing in line , there were about eight girls, young girls standing in line. And they said “what have you gotâ€Â. I had one of the letters and they said “Give it to me. I want to read it. I want to read it†And they read it. And they just went (shakes head) . They hadn’t read it before and they didn’t (unintelligible) all that information. To me it’s bad news.
Aigner : So maybe if I call you you’ll give me one of the letters maybe?
Quinnell I sure can!
Aigner: You don’t have another one on you now?
Quinnell No I don’t. But I can give you what I got and I can give you what she sent me in the mail.
Aigner: I’d be interested to read it.
Quinnell OK
Aigner:: and can you spell your name for me?
Quinnell Q-U-I-N-N-E-L-L
Aigner: E-L-L? And Gayle is just…
Quinnell G-A-Y-L-E
Aigner: And where you from?
Quinnell I’m from Shakopee.
Aigner: Shakopee?
Quinnell Shakopee, Minnesota
Aigner: And and I’m sorry how old are you ma’am?
Quinnell I’m 75
Aigner : 75?
Quinnell (Nods yes) And I got a lot of grandkids and a lot of kids, I’ve got five kids. I got seven grandkids and they all think the same way.
(PHONE NUMBER EDITED OUT OF CONVERSATION)
Noah Kunin( The UpTake): Do you volunteer at the Republican Party Headquarters or the McCain Campaign office over in Burnsville?
Quinnell McCain. McCain Headquarters in Burnsville.

I can't deny that there are crazies on both sides, of course -- there are Democrats who are just as certain in their paranoia...
The difference is that most Democrats try to distance themselves from the extremists while the Republicans encourage theirs, which of course makes them bolder, crazier, and legitimate. Then their numbers grow and instead of just being a small group of idiots, they start gaining traction.

 Re: "Terrorist" "Kill him!"
Dang. It is because of "crazy" people like this that I am weary for Obama. Quote: Noah: You called him an Arab terrorist? Is that correct? Why do you think he is an Arab?
Quinnell: Because his dad is. If you… I’ll send you the paper.
Female reporter: His dad is Muslim His dad was Muslim. Barack Obama has never been a Muslim.
Quinnell: No but he’s….
Dana Bash of CNN :he’s a Christian.
Quinnell: He’s not an Arab either, he’s a
Bush: His father was Muslim, and he’s a Christian.
Quinnell Yeah , but he’s still got Muslim in him. So that’s still part of him. I got all the stuff from the library and I could send you all kinds of stuff on him. I actually wouldn't be too surprised if there was something in the local library that detailed how Obama is a terrorist (just from personal experience about some of the books available in libraries across the US). The whole thing is just awful.

The major difference, aside from tone, is that one of their crazies is their vice presidential nominee.

I received an e-mail at work today that "showed" how the US would change with Obama as President. It was downright horrible. I immediately deleted it, but it should Obama with clothing/beard like Bin Laden and showed the White House converted into something of a mosque. Rather racist imo. It did come from a white woman ... interestingly enough ...

This is an image taken from the OFFICIAL Republican website in Sacramento county. http://www.sacbee.com/812/story/1314854.htmlSacramento County Republican leaders Tuesday took down offensive material on their official party Web site that sought to link Sen. Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and encouraged people to "Waterboard Barack Obama" – material that offended even state GOP leaders.

 Re: "Terrorist" "Kill him!"
I have to say, the following video makes me feel a lot better about humanity, with informed, well-spoken Republicans fighting back in a big way against racist behaviour at a McCain rally. Video: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/2 ... 36203.htmlQuote: At a John McCain rally in Woodbridge, Virginia, three people handed out "Obama for Change" bumper stickers with the Communist sickle and hammer and the Islamic crescent, saying Obama was a socialist with ties to radical Islam. Several moderate McCain supporters, Muslim and Christian alike, struck back - relentlessly bombarding the group distributing the flyers until they left the premises. Man: I understand you're a Muslim? Republican: No, I'm not a Muslim. Man: What are you?Informed Rational Republicans fighting back:- "This is wrong." - "I'm with the campaign, and we don't endorse this behaviour." - "You can be any religion and be for McCain." - "I don't think it is in any way a bad thing to question Barack Obama's ties, but we need to do that in a respectful manner." - "Shame on you guys because we're Muslims, and we're McCain voters, and you guys are taking votes away." Peace, Mike
