ABC is reporting the secret service are on the way to Biden's house so I guess that settles that.

Obama should have sent the text message out tonight. By the time it happens everyone will already know.

It works for me. :) The main thing I want is for the adults to be back in charge, which is how they come across as a team.

my question is are the same things that came up in his 1988 presidential run going to come up as VP. Mainly his little problem with plagiarizing and lying about it.

AP confirms it is Biden. This has been a pretty strange day so far as Obama is concerned.

I think it was pretty brilliant. Solid veep choice going into the convention. Good strategic reaction to the McCain housing gaffe, which effectively neutered the "elitist" meme. I'd call that a day seized! :)

I'm just worried about what happens if McPain picks a female VP. After Obama's ass-whooping of Hilary, and then not picking her as veep and apparently not even consulting her about who he should pick, a lot of her (staunchly loyal) voters are going to be rather ticked off. If McCain picks a women, it'll be very easy for a substantial number of them to play some sort of gender-card and give him their votes.

Most of them are going to vote for McCain anyway, and many of them probably always were. The founder of the so-called PUMA PAC was a McCain contributor in 2000 and never gave to Gore or Kerry.

So there's nothing that Obama or McCain could do that would make any difference with those people.

Yes, but even besides the PUMA fools, I think there are probably quite a few sensible females who, after the Dem's battering any chances at a female ticket (first the female who was, a year ago, the assumed nomination loses out and now, after so much talk of change Obama picks another old, white male as his veep), will jump at any chance of a women in the VP office. If McCain picks one, that's a lot of votes IMO.
A lot of women were (rightfully) very excited about finally having one in office, but Obama's rise and then decisions have destroyed any hope of that...it will be very easy to flee to the next best thing.
Hopefully McCain picks a typically grumpy old white male.

I just don't see any indications that this is the case. If there enough women who voted solely on gender to make an impact, then Hillary would be the nominee right now.

The official text from the Obama camp? Hmmm, one has to wonder about the significant of the message being at 3am.

Thinking more and more about it, I LOVE the OBAMA/BIDEN ticket. Biden was the only one aside from Obama and Clinton that I enjoyed watching during the debates (although it was very limited since the debates were Obama/Clinton focused). Anywho, I think Biden will make Obama more attractive to those in the middle. Great choice and GREAT timing. This year is definitely going to be a legendary election year (already is and should continue to be).

That was the dumbest thing ever.....never understood the need of it... it was online probably within a minute of the announce, if not within seconds.

Dude, the publicity alone was worth it for the Obama camp.

i know, but I don't understand the need of it. This was useless. Sure it works for publicity, but it was a dumb idea. It just wasn't practical.

I think Obama's text thing was pretty brilliant. It enabled him to build suspense and the more people that signed up, the more people he had to tap into for donor lists.

Did the text actually indicate that it was from Obama himself, like "Hello friends, Barack here. I just wanted to tell you that my friend and colleague Joe Biden is joining me to take on the special interests and the stagnant economy as my Vice President."

Hello friends,

Obama does not say that...

McCain does because he wants to act like the much beloved Ronald Regan.

The need? It creates an additional database of numbers they can cross reference with lists they already have so they potentially have X number of new people or X number of the same people with new numbers. In addition, they can now send these people texts of all kinds of alerts especially on election day to remind them to vote. It's quite beneficial.
