 Re: The First Debate
Imo whoever liked McCain still likes McCain.
Whoever liked Obama still likes Obama.
Imo McCain will stay flat, Obama will go up a few points.
However, McCain saved himself tonight.
If he did not do the hail Mary, I think he could have been more stabilized and would have been expected to win the debate.
Obama won, however there is no great ownage and imo I think even the most harshest critic of McCain can realize that he is right on some things, as even Obama realizes that. I think a lot of Obama people thought, McCain would be exposed but imo he showed why he has been such a huge figure in our Country for so long.
However, no doubter of Obama can now say, he does not know anything...
Imo Cnn Calls it For Obama, however it is democratic biased, as FOX is conservative biased.
I think its about 55-45% Obama in reality.
McCain should have won this, however the Economy in the start went to Obama.
Imo McCain won the foriegn policy debate but Obama did much better then expected.
Obama really gave a stupid stupid answer about how he would cut from the budget, Indepedents were screaming with that answer. Imo both leaders fail there, but I expected much more sense from Obama and I could see McCain at least acknowledged the fact, you have to cut.
Obama won the economy, but not as much as expected.
I would expect McCain will really prepare for the economy and have a very pitched debate, and if that happens the race will stay close.

 Re: The First Debate
I think Obama came across presidential. Whether he won or not is an academic point but he achieved his goal of letting people see him look like he had what it takes to be president, IMO.

 Re: The First Debate
He did that well, however McCain was better on the economy then I thought he would be.
Obama's answer on the cuts really made a lot of moderates shake their heads.

 Re: The First Debate
McCain imo was making a castle around himself in that debate.
It was him on the top trying to convince you with his knowledge and experience, and sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not.

Matthews seems way to into the "Obama didn't reach out to Regan democrats" motif. Which would be a valid point, if this was the economy debate.

 Re: The First Debate
Imo, Obama would have owned the debate if he was successful in tying McCain into Bush. He then shot himself, saying... John McCain was right John McCain was right John McCain was right John McCain was right John McCain was right John McCain was right 6 times... Democrats 100% supported it however I think Moderates were not convinced he was especially when McCain said he went against Bush in his own words "on spending, on climate change, on torture of prisoners, on Guantanamo Bay, on a long  on the way that the Iraq War was conducted." You can say he is, but he fought back well to that, considering I think that was impossible to fight against. Quote: Imo, I was 100% Obama during that debate but that mess up with Iran, clearly shows the man with the real insight. Obama has great talking points, but the man with goods knew his stuff.
Imo, I then realized McCain is still good.
What real insights? McCain was full of shit. On Iran, Obama looked like he sealed the deal, and out comes McCain with his hardball pessimism. That pessimism really was the highlight for McCain. Obama could not win that battle no matter how hard he tried.

I really didn't expect McCain to do this well. He beat Obama on many issues tonight.

Mannyisthebest wrote: It made it clear, that Obama actually thinks McCain is right on a few things, which is something you guys have not admitted. Too bad McCain couldn't "reach across the aisle" and agree as well that there were issues they both agreed on, huh? Guess we see who was the more mature of the two. Look, just because you support a candidate doesn't mean you have to disagree with every single solitary thing his opponent says. Maybe you think that way, but reasonable people do not. Obama is a reasonable person. McCain apparently is not.

Imo Body Langugae: Obama Experience: McCain (duh) Hope: Obama (Duh) Economy: Obama Budget: McCain (Obama won, but that Spending comment!) Energy: McCain (Obama just said what McCain said) Taxes: Obama (hands down) Russia: TIE (They both agreed) Defense/War Vets: McCain (duh) Iran: McCain (That comment was great!) Iraq: I agreed with McCain more, but Obama However each thing is not equally weighted, so Obama wins... Quote: Look, just because you support a candidate doesn't mean you have to disagree with every single solitary thing his opponent says. Maybe you think that way, but reasonable people do not. I always said, people on the democratic side should look at their own leader and understand he knows there are great ideas from the other side, why can't you? I know you can say the same about Republicans, but the whole point here is that you guys think you are the "the right side". There are good people to work with on the Republican side, and I am happy to see Obama will work with them.

It is unconscionable to be a moderate or a Republican in this time. I have no sympathy or respect for anyone who is. NONE.
