I disagree with Palin completely on the Issues but she took everyone by surprise and those Obama attacks were making me laugh...

Luckily for you guys I can't vote but it shows personality is almost important as issues in this election.

I have messed up political views.

I support the Liberals in Canada 100% and hate the conservatives here.

I hate Bush and his failed polices but I like John McCain.

I think the reason McCain appeals to centrists like me, shows why this race will be so close.

I hate Republicans and the last good Republican was Ronald Regan and then General Eisenhower.

It's always one of the most important things in American presidential elections. The winner is usually the one who most effectively puts a "kick me" sign on the back of his opponent. The "smiling bully" type.

I think she was horribly sarcastic and mean-spirited and vile. I felt a little bit sorry for her being thrust into such media scrutiny (her daughter certainly doesn't deserve it either), but now I see how she really is. I was very taken aback, and am upset she is representing women in this election. She doesn't deserve it.

Peace,
Mike

If McCain was more liberal on some key social issues, I would swing his way. Unfortunately, this election is not about personalities, but ideals and the future of this country.

Box: the guy is likable and he does have a story to tell. If we were able to combine his story with Obama's ability to inspire plus Hillary's determination, we would have the perfect President.

But no worries: there is no way in hell I am voting Republican this year or any year.

Maybe his approval rating would be better.

I gave you a statistic from the Washington Post. This is a well known mainstream paper located in the capital of the United States.

How can you admit that Bush has sent billions to Africa (something that isn't pandering to his base) and then mention that you wish he would stop "always pandering to his base"?

That's about as far as I can get deciphering the caustic drivel flowing from your fingers.

Bush doesn't pander. He just does. He didn't pander on the amnesty bill either. Aside from the hilarious "I don't believe in nation building" quip from 2000, Bush is far more a man of his word than today's McCain.

Its the choice between a young idealist and a experienced man with many wounds.
Its a choice that is rather diffcult...

I just don't trust Obama and I do not think McCain can do anything New.

Sarah Palin will be huge, here criticisms flew out the window yesterday.

Your absolutely right, his character is much better. He came back from vietnam to his wife who had been in a serious car wreck, and he cheated on her multiple times with other women, and then he dated Cidney McCain for 9 months while still married, and then filed for a marriage certificate to Cidney, while he was still legally married to his ex-wife. Character of a champion.

On this and the immigration issue, I will give Bush credit. And on these issues, he is completely alien from his party. When Bush supported sensible immigration reform, it was the one time in his 8 years, through all of the wars, massive spending, hurricanes, nation building, war crimes, lies, and torture, that the nutjob base actually criticized him, almost to the point of wanting to impeach him.

Bush is not a racist. But you're right that he must tread lightly on these issues when dealing with the base. So does McCain, btw, who supports Bush's immigration plan. But whenever he addresses a right-wing group, he only talks about the dumbass fences.

Speaking of race, is it possible that the Republican party is LESS diverse than they used to be?!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... errer=digg

Only 36 of the 2,380 delegates seated on the convention floor are black, the lowest number since the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies began tracking diversity at political conventions 40 years ago.

Mccain reminds me of Bob Dole and that didn't go too well for him.

imo I could care less about stupid stuff like that.

Barrack Obama was a troubled Teen who smoked lots of drugs.

Imo I could care less.

When Obama was smoking all those Drugs, John McCain was in a cage in Vietnam getting tortured.

So imo lets not get into these issues.

Imo all three people are solid contenders.

Imo for McCain to stay in this race when his party is getting destroyed in the polls show there is bipartisan support for him.

Post Heart condemns McCain-Palin use of 'Barracuda'
HAHA I love this. Go Heart!

Quote:
ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — Blasting through the Republican convention hall is the 1977 hit "Barracuda" by rock band Heart.

It's a shout-out to Sarah Palin. When she played basketball in high school, the soon-to-be Republican vice presidential nominee earned the nickname "Sarah barracuda" for her fierce competitiveness.

Some of her opponents revived the "Sarah barracuda" nickname after she became mayor of her hometown, Wasilla, in 1996, defeating a three-term incumbent.

UPDATE: Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart said Thursday night that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a cease and desist notice to the McCain-Palin campaign over their use of 'Barracuda.'

"We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We
hope our wishes will be honored," the group said in a statement that said they "condemn" the use of the song at the Republican convention.

Big goof last night. Bolding is mine.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/213806.php

A lot of people were asking tonight: what the hell was that mansion up behind John McCain tonight during the first part of the speech? As I noted below, the TV close-ups only showed McCain's head against the grass in the picture, which made it look like he was reprising his famed green screen performance. And when they panned out, it looked like McCain was showing off one of his mansions.

Well, several readers have written in to tell me that the building is actually the main building on the campus of the Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California. And sure enough, this page on the school's website makes it pretty clear that they're correct.

You can compare below ...
So it's not a mansion, but a middle school. But that still doesn't answer the question of why they picked this picture to have him standing in front of -- when I would imagine that 99.9% of the US population would have no idea what they were looking at.

(ed.note: Thanks to TPM Readers JR and EK for cluing us in.)

Late Update: I'm surprised this hadn't occurred to me. But several readers have suggested that perhaps one of the tech geeks charged with setting up the audio/visual bells and whistles for the evening was tasked with getting pictures of Walter Reed Army Medical Center but goofed and got this instead. At first I thought, No, that's ridiculous. This is a major political party with big time professionals putting this together. Nothing is left to chance. I mean, is this the RNC or a scene out Spinal Tap or Waiting for Guffman? I still have a bit of a hard time believing they're quite that incompetent. But when you figure in what appears to be the utter lack of any logic for this school being behind McCain and the fact that it has 'Walter Reed' in its name, I'm really not sure you can discount this possibility.
