Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
The problem is when the man has power, he gets a big ego and acts in a silly way.
They were showing on CNN, some videos on him lecturing and he seems like a smart guy.
He is a very complicated man.
He is smart and knowledgeable, but is self destructive, has a big ego and appears mean.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
Gingrich is a weird guy, he can go from one second giving an amazing historical lesson then saying nonsense like mandatory drug tests.
The man has an interesting life, he brought the Republicans back to Congress and have controlled it since 1994 (apart for 4 years). Then he imploded like crazy...

There are much better Republicans than Gingrich, but I'm starting to sound like a broken record, so I'll stop.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
Of course there are.
A solid Republican would defeat Barrack Obama...
I suggest the GOP use Ronald Reagan's ghost but I think that goes against the 23rd amendment.
Real suggestions would be David Petraeus, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush (lol I know but he is wayyy smarter), Mitch Daniels.
Imo looking at 2016, I think someone of the young blood of the GOP will be the nominee.
Many think Hilary will try in 2016, she would easily become nominee but I do not think she will run.

I hope I'm not the only one enjoying the HELL out of these Republican candidates. HILARIOUS.
Oh, and Manny... There ARE NO "Solid Republicans". LOL

Well Yes and no...
The Republicans have gotten much more extreme.
For example Ronald Reagan would look like a moderate compared to the current Republicans.

Ronald Reagan would look like a socialist compared to current Republicans.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
Reagan did massively decrease taxes and spending but he raised them on other things including Corporations when faced with big deficits. He did also increased funding to the military, social security and medicare.
Anyways the point is both President Reagan and Clinton were able to work with a congress controlled by another party.
Unlike today, where there is a gridlock.

How about him saying poor young people should work as janitors in schools. Why would anybody suggest abolishing child labor laws? I didn't know the republican party wanted to go back to the 19th century. Next thing you know you will hear one of them say, we should stop women from voting and bring back slavery.

Gingrich has opened up double digit leads over Romney in both National and State Polls now (except for New Hampshire) with under a month to go.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
And that's despite Romney polling better than Gingrich against Obama in many states, including Florida and Pennsylvania.
It's almost sad (or hilarious I suppose) how Republicans outright refuse to support Romney, even given how well he polls against Obama. It almost makes me wonder why Romney even bothers with the Republican Party anymore.

Romney not winning the Rep nomination is a dream come true.
What's the betting line on Obama winning? Because I'm gonna put my house on it.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
I think Florida looks to go GOP more so then Ohio in 2012.
The odds for Obama winning against Romney are like 55-45 for Obama, but against anyone else its well past 60-40.
Imo Obama vs Romney would likely somewhat like the 2004 election.
For example I see a 272-266 for Obama with Romney. Very close election, either having New Hampshire or Nevada flip and its game over.
Also to note Romney polls very strongly in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
With everyone else, I just do not see the purple states voting for those people.

Heh, checked the odds. Obama still easily the clear favorite.
Romney at about 5/2 odds. Newt at 7/2. Obama at 10/11.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
Yeah Obama will win, but he will face a GOP congress and likley a Senate that will be barley democrat or perhaps GOP controlled.
I think however if Obama pulls off a 1996 style victory like Clinton, Obama would be able to sort of force congress to listen to him for a year or two.

It was on CNN this morning, but I can't find it, although I haven't looked very well. The Hispanic vote could be a key there and could swing it to Obama. I think Republicans are going to be in trouble with the Latino vote. I think Obama got 55% last election. I could see it going closer to 60% this time.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
No! Just because Obama wins does not mean he will become a better leader then he is now.
He will have goodwill, but if things are not much better, he will be at war with congress again and have a majority disapprove of him.
IMO Obama is a good speaker, but apart from solid foreign policy moves, he is not a great President.
Also, imo if polls have Obama leading by less than a few points, its a tossup and polls have shown for a while that Florida is not becoming more favourable to the democrats.

He has a 49%to 44% lead over Gingrich. It is closer with Romeny (can't remember how close). So, it is looking pretty good for Florida. Florida will be close like it has in the last 3 elections.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
The only states Gingrich polls better than Romney in Vs. Obama are the traditional red states that won't be going blue anytime soon and are non-factors during the election. And based on polls, Romney puts Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Florida in play, states Gingrich is very unlikely to contend in.
Romney is clearly the better National Candidate, but Republicans just won't, under any circumstance it seems, back him.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Herman Cain drops out
Senate and Congress are simple.
Congress will stay GOP, likley lose a few seats as they won so many in 2010. Senate will see at-least 2 more Republican Senators but that still leaves them short. So its a just short of majority or a slight majority.

Brown is unpopular in the state and he only won last time because the democrats couldn't find a good candidate. They have a great candidate this time and she is beating Brown by 10 points in the last poll. About Romney, I wonder if his religion has anything to do with his problems. People have speculated that some republicans refuse to vote for him because of it. Of course I do think his moderate past is a bigger problem. Although picking someone like Gingrich would be like them picking Goldwater back in 64.
