Also I heard one of the idiots said to raise the FDIC insurance to 250 K from 100 K. Great, give alittle more money out early to ease the problem now but solve nothing and just delay the problem.

The FDIC is an insurance company and guarantees accounts up to $100K. The banks pay the premiums for that insurance. I don't think raising the cap is a bad idea at all, and it's probably about due for an increase anyway. It doesn't pay out to anyone unless a bank goes completely out of business.

It's definitely due for an increase. I am surprised that no one has wanted to increase it before. The last time it was raised was in 1980 to the current $100,000. Today, using the Consumer Price Index, that would be the equivalent of $250,000.

and how much is in there and how much was just used.

with you guys saying don't pass this bill, a couple of banks could put this to zero and if they raise it to 250 K, fewer banks will kill the $ available.

I'm disgusted.

So, of the two oklahoma senators I thought for sure Coburn would vote No simply because of his reputation of being against pork spending and against big government, however, just like his endorsement of John McCain the prick votes Yes on this newly named Financial Markets Bill.

Let me tell you, I'm gonna give his f'ing office a phone call tomorrow. Then I'm going to be calling each of my state's house members to remind them how they should be voting. This is just insanity. The Senate gives a rip about what the public THINKS! They don't care. 60/70/80% against shit and they don't give a shit. I'm pissed right now.

Tom Coburn (you demon!)

On a side note politically, I think John McCain missed a golden egg opportunity here when this legislation started getting formulated. Instead of siding with the people who were 90% against it at the time, he chose to side with big govt and screw the public. He could have taken on the mantle of populist and tried to formulate his own legislation or help craft something else that wasn't as overwhelming as the current bill. Instead he chooses to support it thus being in the same position as Obama and getting nothing in return for voting Yes on the damn thing. He's doomed himself with this vote.

The bill is about to pass. I've heard at least 5 people already who had voted no but will vote yes. I've heard the sky is falling argument multiple times, the we must do something (Amidala Plea) multiple times and someone who claimed Warren Buffet knew more about the problem than any of them in Congress.

How many times do I have to hear that the bill isn't perfect, the bill is bad is not good but it's something we must do to save the economy. Watching this "debate" this morning is saddening and depressing at the same time knowing that these folks elites know-it-alls in Congress just don't care about anything except their own little agendas. I hope half the assholes get voted out Nov 4 if possible.

If the economy stays out of a recession or only sinks into a small one = Bailout win!

If the economy gets worse than it is now= Bailout did not do enough, needed more!

Either way, the government grows.

That makes it the perfect exclamation point to the end of the Bush years.

That is true, but Bush and his team are not going to be the ones implementing the bailout. Obama (most likely) or McCain will.

That's one of the things that makes it a perfect end to Bush's administration. One more instance of someone else coming in and cleaning up his mess.

Grover Norquist: "Perhaps Mr. Bush has, on behalf of the modern Republican party, raised the white flag in surrender to bigger government.”

Um, where have you been the last 8 years, you pathetic shitbag? This is what it's going to be like in the wake of Bush. You won't find a single Republican that says they supported any of Bush's unprecedented expansion of government, even though they ALL enabled him. Particularly the Republicans in Congress, but also his supporters, who treated any criticism of Bush as a bashing of America.
