Paul's been soundly ignored throughout most of the race, even though he's the ideological father of the Tea Party, only without any of the batshit lunacy that Bachmann or Perry bring with them.

What with the holy war coming and his refusal to be a high priest in the new American theocracy - - he's out of luck.

The liberals would be in so much better shape if they acknowledged the threat of Islam. It's frustrating.

I was being partly sarcastic, part serious. I really don't know if either party would attract more voters by being more vocal about Islam - truthfully though, I think both parties are too afraid to face the issue head on. A Dutch politician was assassinated for being vocal about his concerns on the issue. Conservative voters here though I believe would be more apt to support a liberal politician who was tougher on the issue.

I am a liberal incidentally, but always a rationalist first, which is why politics in general mostly disgusts me.

American politicians wouldn't be wise to talk about the Christianity problem either.

not acknowledging the threat of radical Islam is something we learned the hard way.

After the terrorist attacks in the 90's, we digged our heads in the sand thinking we are invincible.
What happened was that the Govt completely failed to stooping the 9/11 attacks as they thought "oh such things can't happen to us"

I think many on the left (the right is going overboard), think Terrorism is not a real threat and I am quite certain if go back to putting our heads in the sand, we will be talking about another domestic terrorist attack in a couple of years and then say how the govt does not protect us.

Religion has the capability of producing violent extremists. It's just the nature of the beast. The only reason we don't see more ultra-violent Christian extremists is because there aren't as many Christian theocracies (unless Bachmann or Perry have their way) and Christians probably don't feel as globally oppressed as Muslims do (which makes for great propoganda.

Just being a realist.

That is a good point, however meaningless in reality.

If religion produces these extremists
(well I rather think leaders of terrorist groups have more social, political cultural goals and use Religion to manipulate)
it is the duty of a government of a civilized and free society to make sure they cannot inflict war and conflict upon us.

Just because they may have a right to be angry at us, does not mean we just bend over and take a kick in the ass ? lol

May I ask where you get your programming (TV wise)?

The best way to actually get at the terrosists is to turn to an alternative fuel. It would send less funds into the middle east (who instead of making their nations wealthier, they pile the money into a few select individuals who have become the wealthiest men in the world) and also lead to less economic conflicts with the middle east.

Simply fighting through violence is not going to solve anything on a long-term scale. But that is an obvious point only redneck Americans would argue against. I believe Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are the two Republican canidates who are mature enough to understand this point. All the more reason I support those two over Michelle and Perry.

Hmm, lets see to make you all giddy, I watch Fox news all day. Every day.

I do watch news, I generally watch the BBC and CBC in Canada and I only get CNN up here.
Lol CBC is very liberal but they get a lot of other opinions, so I like it.

I acknowledge we have done terrible things in that part of the world, but that does not justify 9/11 in any way.

In Response to Darth, when I mean about responding I mean about keeping our guard up. Not about invading the whole Middle East.

Well there's your problem right there!

All TV news is mind-poisoned.

You wanna know where i get my programming from?

The Golf Channel

But if I were to want to form an idea of what is actually going on in TRW, I would search out my own reality online.

I hope everyone tries it once in a while!

I have not.

I was referring specifically to the kind of theocratic, anti-science lunacy that Bachmann and Perry spew. I'm sure Paul's perfectly crazy in his own way.

I'll take secular crazy over religiously crazy any day as their reasoning is based on logic, not a book written thousands of years ago.

The theocrats aren't that dangerous because they know who really greases their palms and their wealthiest, most powerful leaders care more about money than Jesus. Even Bush just paid lip service to those wackos. Guys like Paul are based on religion too, it's just the religion of Austrian Woo.

Eh, he'll be 70. They'll run Rubio or something if they're smart, even if they tend towards establishment types. He'll at least have a term in the Senate, he'll be a fresh-faced 46, a minority without being too brown to scare the virulent racists in the GOP, he'd carry a swing state with the Cuban lobby alone, charismatic and a true-believing ideologue that'd gut SS even if his constituency in Florida would tar and feather him with denture cream.

Why don't we recognize it was a product of our overseas intervention?

Understood, and accept my apologies for implying you were a conservative.

I'm a realist as well, and I gave my comments about terrorism and religion in another post here yesterday...
