Further proof that those of you supporting Obama (at least in part) because polls show him doing better against McCain, or that think people who support Clinton are insane because she's the less electable Democratic candidate might want to re-think the logic in that...
The latest Rasmussen poll shows McCain beating both Clinton and Obama nationally. He beats Obama by 4 points, Clinton by 3.

Rasmussen is a more conservative polling site. Gallup which is more moderate has Obama beating McCain and so does USA/CNN, MSNBC/Washington Post and I think Zogby does too. Just because you found one poll that says otherwise don't mean anything. I think MCain will lose because of the economy he knows nothing about that issue.

No,McCain will lose to either Obama or Clinton because he's running as a Republican. When you have the opposing party blowing your turnout out of the water in every single state, even if the red states, there is a problem. And when you have whoever places second beating you in total votes, that's an even bigger problem.
McCain can use all his exp talk all he wants, spend 10 Billion Dollars, get every endorsement he needs, and get the conservatives to rally behind him, and it'll still be a landslide against him compared to the past two elections.
“Gods are great ... but the heart is greater. For it is from our hearts they come, and to our hearts they shall return.” “We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.” “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” “You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can't carry on at all.” "Paper is dead without words / Ink idle without a poem / All the world dead without stories."
So I finally made my decision and put my ballot in the mail today. Let's hope my state follows the trend of the past eleven.

Obama has closed the gap from 17 points two weeks to 9 last week to now 6. However, Clinton is leading by 22 points among those who have voted (the margin of error should be about +-7% since the sample size there is around 200), so in real votes so far, she should be leading pretty big, and Obama will still need to maintain and continue his momentum to have the actual votes on Tuesday in his favor. He is also trailing 46-51% among the people who have their mind already made up. So overall, I say he has a pretty uphill battle in Ohio.
Texas is a different story, as the trend from the latest batch of polls clearly favors Obama.

That is the other thing these polls don't really factor in and that is turnout. They base their numbers on likely voters not registered which is a huge difference.

The problem for Hillary is that she needs to dominate the night in order to get back her momentum and the delegate count. And I just don't see that happening. Obama has closed the gap in Texas and is closing the gap in Ohio. A tie goes to Obama, especially in Texas.

I have a question for those of you who seem to know a lot more about polling than I do: Are they factoring the youth vote into these? I would think most college students are not being polled because most don't have a landline. Is that misguided thinking?

Yeah, but the polls are really inaccurate anyway, so you can never put too much trust in them. Some polls showed Obama winning NH and CA by huge margins and he didn't, and so on. You never know.
Either way, it should go to show you all that you can say "Republican's have no chance" all you want, but we will still vote, and our votes still count just as much as yours.

Never said "Republicans have no chance." Democrats have proven that the have a talent of losing elections they should win. You never know what would happen.

Re: March 4th Championships
How can McCain beat Obama? Obama slips up in the debates somehow, makes an embarassing gaffe. Or there's another terrorist attack and for some reason that makes people swing right. Or perhaps McCain does the smart thing and comes out with a radical set of appealing plans that makes him look like more of the change candidate.
I think Obama has a good shot to win but he has to fight against the public's sense of balance that they usually seem to have. It just seems over time that the public tends to want one party controlling congress and the other controlling the presidency, for most of the last few decades.

John Kerry and Al Gore were both way ahead of Bush this far ahead of their elections. You never know what could happen.

Well they both ran lousy campaigns. Kerry messed up by not dealing with the Swift Boat scandal and looking like he was waffling on issues. Gore did a horrible job campaigning until the final couple of weeks. Hopefully, Obama does a better job than they did.

So far he has run a textbook campaign, so I am optomistic.
I will put my money on Obama, but I have seen campaigns implode before. Even Dukakis was 20 points ahead of Bush I in the summer before the election. (Of course, he ran a crappy campaign too).
And as they say, a week is a lifetime in politics. Anything can happen.

The difference is Obamas black. It is truly harder for him to mess up than others because hes hard to attack and always comes across very nicely while owning an opponent.
the big thing is how astonishingly quickly he has made hillarys lead vanish in some states people thought she would win big. i dont see why he cant do to john mccain.

I agree it's harder to attack him but there were other factors too. He did that to Hillary partly because he thought ahead and she didn't. He opened many offices all over the country in almost every state. Just look at this video to see how unprepared she was last year:
