Could be typical convention bounce, could be McCain implosion.

Obama got a great bounce from the convention. It also looks like Palin isn't making a difference so far, unless she is negatively effecting it.

Or a combination of the two. I am anxious to see if McCain gets a bounce from his convention.

Obama went up to 49 then down to 48 and now 50. That indicates to me it's Palin related. He seems to have gotten a bounce, it was subsiding a little and now this.

I'm thinking what is happening is the sides are hardening. No McCain implosion but people getting more of a clear idea who they are for, less waffling. The more conservative voters are firming up behind McCain (and donating a lot - they love Palin) and pro-choice female swing voters are deciding Obama is their candidate.

But who knows - it'll definitely be interesting to see what happens in the coming days.

Isn't it time for another electoral college update?

Obama crossed 50% in both Gallup and Rasmussen daily polls, a major milestone. Last Friday is really the only good polling day for McCain/Palin. Once that's removed from the 3-day average, and with the development in the last couple of days, Obama is stretching his lead again.

With two weeks of conventions going on, national polls have become the focus, and state polls are kind of being put aside until next week.

yeah, the page I use for those maps in the other thread haven't had any updates in a week or so, due to a lack of state polls, an emphasis on national polls and the holiday weekend.

Doesn't really make sense to do state polls in the convention period given that most originations do them once a month at most.

McCain at this point needs to do well in the debates in order to win. If McCain loses to Obama in the debates, I think Obama has it in the bag.

Yeah, but he needs to stay humble. Gore trounced Bush in every debate, but the underdog card inexplicably carried him through.

I think in the debates that Obama simply needs to do okay, not even win. The public will see a 5'7" pale, bald, white haired man next to him and go "Maybe not."

Iowa: 55-40 for Obama
Minnesota: 53-41 for Obama (pre-rep.convention)
Ohio: 47-45 for Obama

I love it.

McCain was such an idiot to think that women would just blindly vote for any woman on the ballot for no other reason than she IS woman.

Palin imo will make Michigan more competitive and put the south out of reach for Obama.

Well, McCain and Fox News have at least one day to celebrate as he is now leading by 3 points in Gallup and even in Rasmussen. I'll wait another week for the whole convention bounce to settle down, and I'll see if state polls correlate with them, but still an :grrr: moment for me.

It is a convention bounce and Obama lead is all destroyed.

It will be a neck to neck race all the way through...

Actually Obama has been missing for a week though and McCain and Palin are in the limelight.

McCain was leading whites by 50 to 40 and it appears Obama went down then further. It appears Obama will have a hard time going after Moderate blue collar worker which is his weakness with Sarah Palin.

Obama has to bring to get around 45% of the White vote to win.

Obama needs to fight for the independents.

The backlash against the media (which has been very unprofessional for the past week or so) is also having an effect on the polls.

Obama needs Ohio or Colorado. That's literally what it will come down to.

true He can take Colorado, but imo Ohio is not going democrat.

However the good news is that if takes Iowa which is almost certain he wins.

I'm wondering what the youth vote will be like, the turnout level. They seemed fired up about Obama earlier in the year but I haven't heard much since then.
