My point is simply that Mau is acting like a child, complaining about the state of a subforum, then actively and consciously taking part in making it much worse, on purpose, to make a childish point. The forum is what he made it. Everything in regards to moderation is shades of grey, in one light something is a viable contribution, in another it looks like overkill. Lecter always aims for consistency, just because the shadow casts differently from where you're standing doesn't make his opinion any less valid. If you disagree, make it known in a constructive way, and the moderating team will make note and do what they feel is right. |

Thanks for the support, Karl. Well, here's my point of view. Do I find David's thread-creating excessive? Yes. Very much so. Does he break a rule there? No, he doesn't. Creating all of these threads at once is too much maybe, but ALL of them (at least in the Music forum) ask valid questions. If you don#t like them, don't reply to them. Mau's reaction was (expectedly) childish, BUT he also asked questions (even though some were silly) that can be answered. The Music forum was 70% dead, so it's not like the two (yes, both David and Mau) are killing Discussion. At this point, more attention has been brought to that subforum that it had in months, maybe years. I also believe in natural selection of threads and topics. If they are shit and not well-liked, well, they'll just disappear from the front page. The Music forum is not Box-Office or Cinemania. Yes, I realize the problem is Mau's intention and his attitude. He created those threads as a defiant reaction against my decision not to take action against David and not because he actually wanted to ask those questions. Yet, as it stands, these still are questions that can be answered or ignored. Magnus, I have closed threads in the Water Cooler or Cinemania in the past which were clearly going the way of startimg trouble or turning into a flame war which is something I want to be avoided. I don't remember closing many (I'd say any, but in fact I don't remember that well) threads in recent months because I considered them spam. Can Mau's threads be considered spam? Maybe, but I made a judgement call and I stand by it. |

Oh, yes, you're trying hard to be a dick (mixed success), but this is a valid concern here on your side. I agree about that thread and I monitor it closely. I don't want fights started, but I also believe that surpressing all negativity altogether and not giving people an opportunity to vent is maybe not all that smart either. That thread by torrino has precedence in this: www.worldofkj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=69767 and this: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=69397 Both turned out fine in the end. Besides, I have not received a complaint about that thread by torrino yet. If I feel it is going out of control, it'll be closed. |
