A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
Does WOKJ condone all of these illegal copies of movies being posted on the forums lately? I would hope that it doesn't, but the frequency and regularity with which they are being posted seems very suspicious. Who but a member of the forums would take the trouble to post them to a minor movie site such as this? Is this a problem that the admins are looking into, and if so is there any way to eradicate this scourge? They seem to be trending towards outnumbering legitimate posts.

Whenever I see those accounts/posts I delete them and deactivate/ban the accounts. If you can suggest a way to get rid of them for good, go ahead and tell me.

Re: A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
There are certainly ways to improve the security of the forum, but sooner or later the bots catch up. I also suspect that Arthur cannot do much without Eagle to help it.

And there were even sneakers some time ago. From the variety of products it's obvious they're Chinese (no offense to anyone).

Re: A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
The best thing to do, Arthur, if you see an account like this is to delete the account and associated posts. This can be done right from the ACP really easily, just go to the user's profile when you see a post, then click the administrate user button, log in, and use the delete user and posts option. We do have captcha turned on, bots have broken most modern captcha's at this point. QnA captcha is generally the most effective, dependent on how creative you're questions are.
I'll look into possibly adding additional measures in the future, but for now, if you see a post that hasn't been deleted in a day or so, feel free to PM me or Arthur and whoever reads it first will take care of it.
Apologies,
Karl

Well, I am doing just that (deactivating accounts and deleting all their posts in the process..."they" just keep coming back).

Dr. Lecter wrote: (..."they" just keep coming back). Interesting aside from the Wikipedia Captcha article: Quote: Human solvers
CAPTCHA is vulnerable to a relay attack that uses humans to solve the puzzles. One approach involves relaying the puzzles to a group of human operators who can solve CAPTCHAs. In this scheme, a computer fills out a form and when it reaches a CAPTCHA, it gives the CAPTCHA to the human operator to solve. Spammers pay about $0.80 to $1.20 for each 1,000 solved captchas to companies employing human solvers in Bangladesh, China and India.

Re: A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
Yep. That's why QnA works better, but only if the questions are unique, easy, but tricky at the same time. Quite a conundrum. If you can type the question into google and get an answer, they will find it quickly and you're still screwed.
Maybe you guys could help come up with some unique, fun, movie related questions we could try out?

Re: A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
All of them have an email @hotmail.com, so I'd ban that address. Should be an option under Users or Groups in the Control Panel to do this.
While it could possibly prevent an actual user from joining the forum with a hotmail email address (shouldn't hurt things here though, and hotmail is probably the least used email these days), Eagle, Lecter, or Nebs can ban any accounts being creating using specific email addresses. It won't harm anyone who used a hotmail email prior to the ban.
That'd prevent all these hotmail.com spam accounts from joining.

Re: A Plague of Pirated Movies on KJ
Heh, if it was @mail.com or something, fine, but we can't simply ban hotmail accounts. If it gets too bad, we'd be better off turning on admin verification of an account before a user can post, that would solve the problem fairly quickly.

Speaking of the DVD section, with the recent infestation, it might be time to delete that section or combine it with another category as a subforum. The section was hardly being used to begin with, but now with the constant spamming it isn't being used at all.
