Post subject:  Forum Improvements

Guys,

now that I have been an admin for a while, I've familiarized myself wit the forum structure and the database that drives it.

What I'm looking for now is suggestions on how the forums can be improved, both content-wise and structurally. I made some changes to the forum recently, but I am just one person, and there's 600 of you, and most of you have something you'd like to make better. SO here's your chance to make a difference!

Every suggestion is welcome, and I will try to follow through to the best of my ability.

Thanks

Now I know why it's good to have a librarian as an admin: he'll give you as much freedom and as many options as possible :pinch:

Ok, I was wondering if it'd be possible to have the headers for the forum columns be clickable, so that, for example, if you wanted to organize the threads by thread starter or alphabet, you could do so.

Cheers

A woman whispers to here friend: "I have to tell you something, but promise you won't tell it to anyone else - my husband is a syphilitic".

The husband yells from the kitchen: "For the last time, woman - I'm a philatelist, not a syphilitic!!!".

As for me, I'm a libertarian, not a librarian.

Good idea. Actually I was wondering about that too not too long ago. I'm definitely looking into it now.

By Thread starter would be good, too bad there isn't a one word subject.

Like the Excel sort - any way to look at the posting #'s so the highest threads can be sorted and looked back on.

Yeah, I like the idea of being able to search a thread by it's author...

The names of certain forums still need some spicing up... DVD, TV, Game Center, and Music just don't inspire.

Something for the game forum like "TonyMontana's Video Game Palace - Where Mere Mortals Like Baba, Killimunati, and ChipMunky Come to be PWNED" rolls off the tongue much better. You could even place that second line underneath as a sub-title.

Grab your Joystick for Games?
Home Theater for DVD?
57 channels and nothing on for TV?
Digital Rythm for Music?

Just throwing out ideas for people to pick and choose from to help.

Hehe, cool beans Archie.

We're definitely going to try and spice things up.

Krem, this definitely falls under the "VB-alizing" the forums (and I realize phpBB or whatever is NOT VB and probably isnt made to be VBalized), BUT, if possible it would also be nice to have "replies" in threads clickable (so as to see who has replied and how many times.) Just sayin'.

Good ideas, Archie. I just made a few changes, but I think they'll work nicely.

Suggestion: if this is possible to program without too much hassle, how about making it so that when a forumer's post is edited by a mod it leaves a message of who it was edited by and when. Also, less importantly but still helpful, if a post is deleted, if possible a post in it's place saying that a post by soandso was deleted and which mod did it.

A very hard mod actualy, requires alot of database work if I remember correctly, but it is out there if Dima wants to go ahead and try I can point him to it.

Probably not worth it, not really that valuable an addition. Just thought maybe it was a snap.

I almost put it on myself a while back, but never did.

I really don't know how complicated the mod is because I haven't looked at it in detail, though I did hear it was rather difficult.

I am sure Dima can handle it.

I'd like an option to view all text from posts in a 4-dimensional 'spiral' of sorts... if you catch my drift.

First of all, Awesome job with the new features Krem :D

it would be fun to have some stats of all the users of the forum, like for example, how many threads has Zingaling started, or a chart containing how many times he has posted on the Water cooler (like Tony Montana did in his thread), i dont know you can put that in the memberlist menu

not really necesary, just....fun  ....for me..... i like charts....

I don't mind kj. I din't see, is m supposed to be short for movies? I always thought it would be best to just write filmworldofkj or something, to clue in that it is a movie site, but to still stay true to its source.

No you silly person, M is for Montana. T is for Tony. WorldofTM... see? It's my world and you're all living in it!

Nebs has the right idea, but the man (AKA: Krem) keeps holding me down. I hate the man.

At least we established that Dolce is silly.
