Post Re: 20th Annual WOKJ Movie Awards Ceremony
We only have two nominees here, which is two more than usual.

The nominees for Best Documentary:

20 Days In Mariupol
Taylor Swift: The ERAS Tour

And the winner is....

Taylor Swift of course.

Some may argue it is not a documentary, but then what is it? I'd say at the very least it is Better Than Nothing. And honestly Eras should have been nominated for Sound too so poo on whoever wants to poo on it.

Next up: the brand new category Best Needle Drop!

Oppenheimer has to be one of the best edited movies ever

Post Re: 20th Annual WOKJ Movie Awards Ceremony
I'm so very glad everyone embraced this new category. I'm always up for awarding non-traditional aspects of film and figured this one would be fun, and obviously there were quite a few good options this year to kick things off with. I wonder what would have won last year. Highway to the Danger Zone to complete the Maverick domination? I Love Rocky Road? One of the fifty Guns n Roses songs in Thor: Love and Thunder? We shall never know.

The nominees for Best Needle Drop and Use of a Non-Original Song are:

"Maneater" by Daryl Hall and John Oates (No Hard Feelings)
"Murder On The Dance Floor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Saltburn)
"No Sleep Till Brooklyn" by Beastie Boys (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3)
"The Power of Love" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (All of Us Strangers)
"Push" by Matchbox Twenty (Barbie)

And the KJ goes to...

It's Murder on the Dance Floor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor!

I wanted to post the scene in the movie but I guess it is too NSFW for youtube lol. Because yes, you will see Barry Keoghan's penis while watching. A lot. It is flopping around all over the place.

Push was my vote though. :P I cracked up so hard when it came on the radio that I missed the whole ass next scene.

Ooh we are getting down to it ain't we. Let's finish off the music with Best Score next!

Classical music is alive at the cinema in the same way it was alive at the opera. Unless you used an edm based score of course.

The nominees for Best Score are:

Across The Spiderverse
Killers of the Flower Moon
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Oppenheimer
Poor Things

And the KJ goes to...

Ludwig Gorranson

for

Oppenheimer

This was surprisingly close. Jerskin Fendrix and Poor Things were only a vote short of tying (though I think Oppy would have still won the tiebreaker. Thankfully I didn't have to do the math.)

Next up will be: Best Cinematography!

Do people still remember that movies stands for moving pictures? It's still crazy to think that we are seeing thousands, perhaps millions, or single camera shots all placed one after another to replicate live action. I always wonder "how did they even come up with this?" when it comes to things like movies, fire and airplanes.

The nominees for Best Cinematography are

All Of Us Strangers
Killers of the Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Poor Things
Saltburn

And the KJ goes to...

Hoyte van Hoytema

for

Oppenheimer

Certainly not the first time he has won but I didn't feel like going back to see how many. Oppy doubled up Poor Things here.

Gonna take another short break, make sure I didn't forget about any of tech categories, and then come back for Best Stunt Ensemble!

After a break in the action, we are back to honor the stunts teams that made the best action scenes in the best action movies.

Here are the nominees for Best Stunt Ensemble:

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Gran Turismo
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
John Wick Chapter 4
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

And the KJ goes to...

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

Obviously not so much a surprise after it already won FX, but I thought for sure that John Wick would win this during the nomination round. Cruise is once again just too strong a presence on here though. And considering he does his own stunts, it is hard to argue with this win.

Lets do writing next with Best Original Screenplay

Writing original material is hard.

Writing original material is hard part two

Writing original material is hard (but switching the lead noun's race/gender/sexual preference.)

Only one of those sentences would qualify for the original screenplay category. So good on these movies for making many sentences that still qualify.

The nominees for Best Original Screenplay are:

Anatomy Of A Fall
The Holdovers
May December
Past Lives
Saltburn

And the KJ goes to...

Emerald Fennell

for

Saltburn

She's now 2 for 2 in this category. Ballerina won't qualify as it is a spin-off franchise film (good for Emerald gettting the bag), so we shall have to wait and see what her third attempt at will be. Very competitive category here as Saltburn won with 6 votes, Holdovers was 2nd with 5 votes and Past Lives was third with 4 votes.

The adapted side of the coin is up next!

Every film nominated in this category got into BP this year. Not sure how common that is, but a few on the original side were left out looking in.

The nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay are:

All Of Us Strangers
Barbie
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Poor Things

And the KJ goes to...

Christopher Nolan

for

Oppenheimer

Barbie actually tied Oppy with 5 votes here, but only had 19 points in the nomination round compared to Oppy's 34 so thus the tiebreak goes to the Nolaner. All nominees got at least 2 votes. Again, a very competitive category, much like the cold war arms race.

Next we'll go with Best Supporting Actress.

To quote the great American poet Vince Neil:

Friday night and I need a fight
My motorcycle and a switchblade knife
Handful of grease in my hair feels right
But what I need to make me tight are those:
Girls, girls, girls

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress are:

Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer)
America Ferrera (Barbie)
Claire Foy (All Of Us Strangers)
Rosamund Pike (Saltburn)
Da'vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers)

And the KJ goes to...

Da'vine Joy Randolph

for The Holdovers.

Blunt and Foy both tied with 4 votes for 2nd place but Joy was way ahead. She won everything else so might as well add a KJ to her shelf.

Next ... best supporting actor!

To quote the great British poet Charli XCX:

I'm lookin' down and my girls are blowin' my phone up
Them twenty questions, they askin' me where I'm at
Didn't hit 'em back
I'm sorry that I missed your party
I wish I had a better excuse like
I had to trash the hotel lobby
But I was busy thinkin' 'bout
boys, boys, boys

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor are:

Robert DeNiro (Killers of the Flower Moon)
Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer)
Ryan Gosling (Barbie)
Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things)
Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers)

And the KJ goes to..

Ryan Gosling

for Barbie.

He's just Ken, anywhere else he'd be a 10, and that anywhere else includes here at the WOKJ. Hilarious performance by one of the great actors and a well deserved KJ to go with it. Sessa was actually next up but still 4 votes away from Gosling.

Next: Best Actor - omg!

Some powerhouse performances here by some of the best men in the biz. No need for silly song lyrics or very important proverbs.

Here are the nominees for Best Actor

Bradley Cooper (Maestro)
Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers)
Barry Keoghan (Saltburn)
Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer)
Andrew Scott (All Of Us Strangers)

And the KJ goes to...

Cillian Murphy

for Oppenheimer

This was the category I was referring to when I made the bloodbath comment (it was taken out of context, I swear.) Though Scott got a somewhat respectable 3 votes each by the end of the count. Giamatti got 3 as well. So it wasn't quite the unanimous choice it initially appeared, but still pretty easy win for an all timer of a performance as Cillian got a whopping 11 votes.

Best Actress next!

Unlike the oscars, we didn't have any extremely controversial snubs here, so lets just go ahead and award the winner without any protest

The nominees for Best Actress are:

Annette Benning (Nyad)
Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon)
Greta Lee (Past Lives)
Margot Robbie (Barbie)
Emma Stone (Poor Things)

And the KJ goes to....

Emma Stone

for Poor Things

This one was pretty close at first but Emma ended up getting almost as many points as Cillian (10.) Unlike in actor, every lady here got at least one vote. Margot was next up with 3.

And next will be ... Acting Ensemble!

Very glad the academy are finally adding this category to the big ceremony. Also glad that all 4 of the individual awards went to different movies to leave some suspense here.

The nominees for Best Acting Ensemble are:

All Of Us Strangers
Barbie
The Holdovers
Oppenheimer
Poor Things

And the KJ goes to...

Oppenheimer

One of my favorite parts of the first viewing was the "hey its that Person" game that came with every new character introduced. Not a single role was wasted on a loser and thus Oppy cleared this category with ease.

I bet you thought I forgot about Best Animated Film but I didn't! Was just saving it till near the end to make a point about something.
