Yes Ravage was really good as well IMO.

I also just remembered Rogue had one crocodile death as well. The CGI lions were bad but it was overall decent.

Now that's a good movie. Easily one of my favorite killer croc films and all I could think of while watching this new Rogue is how much I wish I was watching the one from 2007. They just don't make movies like that anymore.

While I was talking about the new one here but I agree the 2007 Rogue was brilliant. I wish we get more movies like those. Crawl was pretty decent but the settings of 2007 Rogue was really good

Pretty decent???

Ravage is on itunes but I don't see new Rogue on there yet. Are you guys just torrenting it?

Haha. Crawl wasn't great in its settings imo. Too convenient with those pipes and stuffs. It was a great movie that makes brilliant use of its settings. But Rogue 2007 was a much better crocodile movie overall.

For me yes I'm using torrents because most movies don't even come out here too buy out rent.

Both are good, sure--Crawl takes the victory, though :mer:

Another case of the first 15 minutes establishing mysterious happenings only for the next 75 minutes to spin wheels before a predictably forgettable send off. This largely two-character piece needs our main pair to nail the tone, dialogue, and chemistry for any chance to succeed and unfortunately I don’t think that’s the case–especially in regards to chemistry.

Ideally not a creature feature but the recent movie Rogue features lions killing mercenaries so I guess it qualifies. It has a good message and decent turn from Megan Fox.

If my pile of to-be-reviewed movies lightens up enough maybe I'll catch this one someday!

I remember being disappointed by Rogue 07. I believe I even rated Primeval (which is also not great) above it for the year.

I don't consider Primeval a good movie at all, but I do like the brutal and sometimes gory action sequences in it. The CGI on Gustave wasn't that great either, but you do see plenty of him, so I can understand how some might prefer it over Rogue which is definitely more of a slowburn, but I love the Jaws approach and IMO there was enough action in the finale.

This one's actually a short film (7mins) that I thought worked well. I'd give these guys a shot with a feature length horror movie, so hopefully that happens some day!

Yeah, while stupid with bad effects, the scene where the crocodile is charging at Orlando Jones on land has stuck with me. Can’t say the same about anything in Rogue.

Hey look, three that vary from okay to pretty good!

Who Goes there?

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/01/who-g ... -festival/

This short film would be right at home in a horror anthology more interested in tension, setting, and performances than extreme gore or silly fun (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

The Block Island Sound

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/01/the-b ... -festival/

If you’re in the mood to spend a foreboding and creepy hour and a half on a small somber island town where a mysterious sound has unpredictable fallout I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Z

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/01/z-is- ... y-numbers/

The first third/half of building dread and creepiness works well, culminating in a very effective moment that’s a pretty great scare.

Get Duked!

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/01/get-d ... ly-stupid/

Dick jokes and full-on idiot characters could easily be quite entertaining, but this hollow, consequence-free tale is pure cinematic cotton candy–light, fluffy, and good for a couple minutes before it gets old fast.

Range Runners (one of my favorites so far, but I'm a sucker for bare bones survival thrillers)

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/02/range ... d-pumping/

Between Celeste Cooper’s brusquely engaging lead performance, the no-frills directing style, and an easy-on-the-eyes natural setting that creaks, chirps, and scurries with life throughout there’s a lot to like about this tense couple hours in the woods.

The Prey

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/02/the-p ... -mishmash/

Despite featuring many deaths, some torture, a child in peril, and a couple fairly bloody demises the whole thing feels a little light–a silly action movie you’d have on some Saturday while straightening up the place.

Hawk & Rev: Vampire Slayers

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/09/hawk- ... -festival/

It all feels like the end result of asking a teenager off their ADHD meds to put a movie of their choice together however they think works best. Personally, I need a little more than nonstop immature stupidity and moronic hijinks (something like Tucker and Dale vs Evil is an example of what I’d consider a successful dumb fun horror movie).

Tax Shelter Terrors

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/09/tax-s ... an-horror/

If the general backstory of how a tax incentive leads to the rise of Canada’s horror industry sounds at all interesting, here are 60 minutes that should float your boat.

Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/09/night ... than-gore/

All in all this is a respectable effort and frankly I’ve seen a couple much larger budget examples from the anthology field that do *a lot* worse at telling scary stories.

Dead

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/11/dead- ... st-comedy/

A fun one!

I laughed out loud at a few parts of Dead I actually still remember and had a good time from beginning to end with what felt like the extended pilot episode for an ongoing sitcom/drama series of ghostly shenanigans (meant mostly a compliment).

Rent-A-Pal

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/12/rent- ... oneliness/

This psychological thriller with a creepy, well executed premise is anchored by a solid (maybe even great) lead performance from Brian Landis Folkins. If that’s not enough there’s also a lived-in early ’90s setting you can almost feel, a small supporting cast free of weak links or pointless antagonists, and the occasional laugh–though make no mistake, it can be perturbing at times.

Alone

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/14/alone ... -festival/

A slow burn start of building tension puts Jules Willcox’s Jessica in several scenarios that may very well get the hairs on the back of your neck standing and inspire the loudmouth theater attendee in all of us to yell things at the screen. The direction, score, and technical aspects all effectively serve the story while providing a setting with lots to look at and several shots I’d say were lovely (an overhead of a river jumps to mind). If you’re at all a fan of creepy, tense thrillers or survival stories that evoke a certain “what would I do?” element of playing along I think this would be a good and suspenseful time.

The Nest

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/14/the-n ... ily-drama/

This is a superbly performed & quietly unsettling family drama. Carrie Coon and Jude Law expertly lead a solid supporting cast free of weak links in this tale of an apparently affluent ‘80s family with a few expanding cracks in their foundation. If you go into this expecting traditional frights of thrills of any kind you’ll probably be alternatively bored and disappointed, so don’t do that. This one’s more about the horrors of a seemingly happy and well-off family slowly deteriorating under the weight of expectation.

The Honeymoon Phase

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/14/the-h ... narrative/

Do you happen to recall an episode of the TV show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” starring the Mowry twins (of Sister, Sister sitcom fame)? Explaining why I was reminded of it would definitely give away some of The Honeymoon Phase’s story beats and even if you simply know what I’m referring to you already get what to expect from this movie so I apologize to all three other people who know what I’m talking about. Anyway, I’m sure the setup was hoary by the time I saw it on NickTV in the late ‘90s so to get pretty much a repeat in 2020 only with sex, violence, and four times as long doesn’t exactly rock my socks off.

The Last Laugh

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/15/the-l ... e-slasher/

This isn’t scary, suspenseful, shocking, thrilling, or anything of the sort–it’s mind-numbingly boring then limps off with a whimper.

Murder in the Woods

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/16/murde ... ew-to-add/

Steer clear of this loose connection of tropes already exhausted by the mid ‘80s and fully inexcusable in a 2020 slasher. The *sole* unique trait to be found is a largely Hispanic cast and crew, which really has nothing to do with the quality and is more movie trivia.

The Horror Crowd

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/16/the-h ... anecdotes/

If you’re in the mood for an hour and half of fellow horror fans fondly remembering good times, favorite films, creepy experiences, and what the future holds for scary movies I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this.

Rodents of Unusual Size

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/23/roden ... cumentary/

Rodents of Unusual Size is an interesting, informative, and forlorn swamp rat documentary. These 20 pound creatures with orange teeth and webbed feet, also known as “nutria” or “coypu,” were originally imported to Louisiana long ago for their fur but have since become a kind of ecological disaster.

Death of Me

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/28/death ... o-cliches/

The first 25 minutes or so do well enough at establishing the leads, the setting, and the bizarrely perturbing situation they find themselves in only to be followed by a bunch of wheel-spinning predictability for most of the last hour.

2067

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/28/2067- ... adventure/

From the post-apocalyptic dystopian society to the cast, everything comes off a little weightless and everyone’s too put together for the end of the world being nigh. By no means is any of it awful, by the way, just a bit too young adult for my tastes.

How to Deter a Robber

https://horrorbuzz.com/2020/09/29/how-t ... glary-fun/

This character-focused tale of how a few family members deal with a series of robberies in their area never forgets to have a good time and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s clear from the start this has more interest in giving the cast entertaining characters to bring alive while mildly sending up various cliches than going through the motions of a home invasion movie.
