Quote: Danny Boyle has dropped out of directing the next Bond film, blaming "creative differences". The Trainspotting director was to take the helm for the 25th outing in the franchise, with production due to begin at Pinewood Studios in early December. But a statement, posted on the official James Bond Twitter account, revealed on Tuesday that he had quit. It was announced by producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and current Bond star Daniel Craig. The as-yet untitled film - Craig's fifth time as Bond after Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre - had previously been given a release date of 25 October 2019 in the UK. Oscar-winning director Boyle was set to reunite with the actor for the film, the pair having worked together on a short film - featuring 007 and the Queen - for the 2012 London Olympics. While it was to be Boyle's first Bond, it is likely to be Craig's final appearance as 007, fulfilling his five-film contract. The most recent Bond film, Spectre, came out in 2015. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-45265336 |

They were going to start shooting in December for a release only ten months later? Jeez. Sounds like a tight schedule anyway. But it is sad news. Now they'll probably hire a hack. ![]() |

Yeah, it is a shame as I was looking forward seeing his take on the franchise. |

I suspect they will hire a respectable/functional journeyman such as Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers) or Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, Red). A director who can slip in easily. I know this has reignited fans' longing for Christopher Nolan to be hired, but I cannot see it, particularly with a tight schedule. I hope the film turns out well. It would be nice to see Craig depart the franchise on a high note. I was so excited to see Boyle's version of Bond. ![]() |

Might as well get Mendes back. |

Perhaps Martin Campbell is a likely option (unless they are waiting to use him on the first non-Craig Bond). |

Campbell did Casino Royale, so it could be a welcome return. Introducing Craig, now sending him off. It's strange how the importance of a director is now a thing. It never used to be in the days of Roger Spottiswoode and Michael Apted. I think it became a thing with Skyfall because of big-named director Mendes. Before that, it was always only about who was playing Bond. Honestly, I don't really care who directs it. |

I would love Campbell to direct it as I love Casino Royale and fondly recall Goldeneye. Yes, It wasn't as big a deal in the pre-Craig era. I believe it became more of an issue after Marc Forster's less than stellar effort (and the subsequent Mendes revival). |

I always found the bond film's always made mistakes with directors. They go back to the well far too many times, and when many also had to deal with different Actors in the role the styles never really mesh. Craig is the only one to ever really go through an arc in the series, so I think it's more important on what the story and script is. Does anyone know at least the synopsis yet? |

Seems like an upgrade to me. Maniac is supposed to be terrific. |

They're kind of similar in their abilities to bring their own styles to the Bond franchise, so I hope Fukunaga works out and can do his own thing the way Danny Boyle apparently couldn't. Love the first season of True Detective, as well as Sin Nombre, so I'm hopeful. |

Transferring from great television to great film can be difficult, so while I loved True Detective, I'm still skeptical until I see proof that Fukunaga is a competent director (not seen the few films he has directed), but as I said, it's not a bad choice. Has promise, at least. |

Good riddance. Rumors were that Boyle had some crazy ideas for the film, along with his writing partner. Barbara Broccoli and other senior heads were very against his ideas, so it was better than he moved on. |

The working title for Bond 25 is Shatterhand. I hope that's not the actual title. |
