Before there was WOKJ, Boxoffice Theory, BoxofficeMojo Forums and Boxoffice Reports there was the Time Pathfinder Movie Forums. I believe it was the very first popular online forum for boxoffice speculating in the post-newsgroup era. Oh, the memories! Tracking Titanic in real time was one of the great joys (especially the poster, 'Velouria' who predicted $540m before the movie came out!), but so too was Lost World, Phantom Menace and Sixth Sense. And many more.

We have a FB page and I suggested we return to the Forums. What better place than WOKJ.

Welcome all! Refugees and non-refugees alike.

My moniker, lilmac, remains the same as it did 22 years ago.

Yes that will be nice. The Shack was a great book by the way.

Found this goldmine: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!overview

It allows you to search old newsgroup posts. Type something like ‘Titanic boxoffice 1997’ and you'll find gold mines like this:

Though "Titanic" is not likely to be the sophisticated film that
"Kundun" or "Amistad"(though I know some people feel that the words
Spielberg and sophisticated should rarely share the same sentence)
will be, it is my opinion that filmgoers will flock to see it because
of it's many appealing selling points: drama, romance, adventure,
suspense, history, and visual eye-candy. I believe it will perform
very well commercially, though it might not make an impressive profit.
But impressive profit shouldn't be the basis for measuring this (or
any film's) success.
Even if "Titanic" barely makes it's money back, I think the studios
involved should definately have learned their lesson...and even be a
bit proud that they allowed the film to be so lavishly produced at
such a huge expense. Why? Because the film stands a better chance of
lasting the test of time...and it might even be dubbed a classic in
due time...who knows. I would say that a film with the term 'classic'
attached to it will eventually make it's money back and even more so
have the critical and public applause to make it all seem worth while.

Not convinced? How about movies like 'The Ten Commandments' and 'Ben
Hur.' Not really sophisticated fare here..some big time lavishness,
huge budgets, intricately staged scenes, and old fashioned
Hollywood stuff sprinkled about. These films are considered classics
by many many film goers and critics alike. I'm not claiming to know
the exact ingredients of what a true classic is...nor am I claiming
that films considered classics should be considered classic by these
ingredients. I'm simply claiming that relative success or lack there
of in today's market does not necessarily have any bearing of how well
a film stands the test of time. "It's A Wonderful Life" got drubbed
by critics and it wasn't a huge financial success either.

My point: Who really knows.

I am sure it goes without saying that I hope "Titanic" is a good or
even great film that merits success publicly, critically, and
financially.

Can't wait for December 19.

The shade doesn’t carry much weight after the back to backs of SVP, Schindler’s List, Amistad

I wonder how zwackerm found this forum. We can assume stuffp found it through Algren somehow. Those are the only 2 new regulars (1000 posts+) this decade

I'm gonna put WOKJ in my signature on a few other forums. Let's see if it gets a few members

I don't know any Chinese people that like films and especially box office.

There is a Facebook group I post in, not sure if but a few have the stomach for a more honest place like this

This place can easily turn shit if a few 'safe space' fairies join. We need more people like Harry Warden and Bradley Witherberry.

In case you missed it in the Site's thread, there's an explanation for the member drought. To avoid spambots when you register you have to email Eagle who then sends you back an answer to a question, and since he turned over ownership to Lecter, Eagle no longer responds to those. I would suggest changing it to something like asking them "how many letters are in Worldofkj" instead of the email system. Lecter found out about this 3 weeks ago, but apparently finding out how to change things inside KJ's design is complicated, and of course he is busy himself.

So we can blame Eagle? We need someone to blame in today's Twitter outrage culture!

We can keep it factual and impersonal and merely blame "utter stupidity".

We definitely should market this community better - and the Derby.
