Daniel Day-Lewis to retire after his next release Been reading some people saying they're shocked, but it's not really a shock at all. He's had five releases in the last twenty years, with one more in December. Assuming there isn't a medical reason behind the decision, he's retiring and enjoying the rest of his years. |

He won't be missed. He doesn't work enough to be missed. He's good, but no where near my top 30 favourite actors. |

Guy treated acting like a legit profession. No funny business; just pure craft. Sad to see him go, but as Algren pointed out, he has not done too many films, so it won't be all bad. |

After seeing Phantom Thread, I guarantee that DDL will be back in another movie. Why would he go out on one of his weaker roles? |

He'll probably be one of those actors that comes back for a role in another ten or fifteen years. Kind of like how Audrey Hepburn was so scarcely seen on the big screen after Wait Until Dark. |

I hope he’s the lead in Tarantino’s Star Trek. I really can’t think of a better fit for anybody in any movie. 1) QT is a Great he has never worked with 2) Mohicans is the closest he has come to an event picture 3) $$$ DDL could score $40m+ with some good negotiating |
