Post Django Unchained vs The Hateful Eight
Which Tarantino Western do you prefer?

For me, the answer is Hateful Eight. Django is one of his worst films (albeit still a very good film) due to its sloppiness and poor final act. Django never wowed me. Hateful Eight, while long, sucked me into that cabin and I really felt he gave the characters a full story. It had a play atmosphere to it, which I enjoy in films, and was a better overall experience.

I will say King is my favorite character between the two films.

I've not see The Hateful Eight yet, but Django also didn't wow me. It came after his best film (Basterds) and that was always going to be a hard act to follow. It felt more like a contest to see how many times they can say "nigger" and get as much blood onto the screen as possible. The Hateful Eight, I hope, seems more like Death Proof.

The Hateful Eight came off as the more interesting film to me but I haven't seen Django since the first time. Django coming after a expensive period set film with Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds probably hurt its impact to me

They say it more often in DJANGO.

Also, my answer is THE HATEFUL EIGHT.

I guess. It feels even more concentrated in The Hateful Eight to me, though. There are points where the dialogue seems to be, "This n*****? This n***** here? You mean this n*****? This n***** is the n***** you are referring to?!"

Anyway, both films are great, but I prefer Django Unchained. I find it more involving on an emotional level, and it uses its unwieldy length more productively. Its highers are slightly higher in regard to character detail, general excitement, etc. Though The Hateful Eight wins in regard to music and use of Samuel L. Jackson.

I can't decide yet. I really enjoyed Django and the performances in it but I think Hateful Eight has a more interesting story. I have to think about this. I'm leaning Hateful.

Is the non-roadshow version of THE worth seeing? At this point I'm thinking of just waiting for the Blu-ray.

I hope they put the roadshow on DVD because the film only works with an intermission

Just press pause after chapter 3 lol

I've seen both and if you've seen the Roadshow you're good. Essentially the regular version has like one or two scenes slightly trimmed.

I'm going with Django aswell. I watched the film again two days ago and despite it's length it still holds up incredibly well. I'll give you that Hateful Eight has a better more memorable score though.

DJANGO's a movie that wants you to feel good at the end. HATEFUL EIGHT's a movie that wants you to feel like shit.

Django Unchained suffers from a weak final 20 minutes that felt so tacked on making the film feel incomplete. Also, with the role of Django clearly being written for Will Smith, Jamie Fox was so unmemorable in his turn as Django. This lead to Waltz stealing that moving so much that after King's death, there was so little to care about.

Yeah, idk it kinda felt like Jamie Foxx phoned his performance in Django, awkward line delivery. I think Will Smith would've killed it.

The Hateful Eight. I really liked both, but The Hateful Eight will go down as one of Tarantino's most undervalued films.

Django's biggest advantage is that the story actually makes sense.

It's biggest disadvantage is that the last twenty minutes are pretty sloppy filmmaking that leaves you with an unfulfilling climax. Also a whole second half revolving around a plot by King which makes little sense. Also a weak lead performance by Fox. But Waltz kills it in this movie, so it is still pretty damn good.

Foxx is fine, he's just overshadowed by the greatness of Waltz, Leo and Sam's performances. He plays the "story of Brumhilda" scene perfectly, shedding his faux badass personality to show he's really still a child inside.
