Padraig, old buddy, old pal.

Your top ten was brilliant stuff up until the inclusion of Frost/Nixon, I film I have not seen but know it will not be cracking my top ten anytime soon. That said, the inclusion of genre masterpieces such as Let the Right One In, Inside, and The Ruins is more than enough reason for me to approve your application. Even the rather underrated Babylon A.D. is an inspired pick.

Your top five directors are intriguing and interesting (save for the Eastwood - I'll assume you're talking about him before he went senile), while your top five films are rather boring, given that they haven't changed much in all the time I've known you. But given that I still have not seen Vanishing Point, I'm prepared to let that slide. As long as you admit that Alien is, in fact, far superior to its sequel.

To sum up, I am willing to accept you into the club, if only because we're friends and I'm soft like that (but not in other ways, you disgusting perv). Also, you share my distaste for a certain overrated animated POS, and that always helps.

I honestly thought this thread was a joke : (

Top ten of 2008 so far:

01 Synecdoche, New York
02 I just bought Wall-E
03 Man on Wire
04 Paranoid Park
05 Surfwise
06 Snow Angels
07 Let the Right One In
08 My Blueberry Nights
09 Vicky Christina Barcelona
10 Ashes of Time Redux

Top 5 directors ever?
Well I am not going to say Hitchcock and Kubrick, because I feel like they kinda go without saying.
I think this question is probably not answerable, but I'll go with the only three directors of the past fifty years who really matter (01 Godard, 02 Woody Allen and 03 Robert Altman) and round out the 5 with 04 WKW and 05 David Lynch. Since I have deemed this question unanswerable, I am allowed to change any of the 5 at any point to include people more deserving who I currently have forgotten.

Five of my favorite films:
Please note that you did not ask for my top 5 favorite films (another unanswerable question). Therefore, these are just five of my favorite films ever, and again I can give any other 5 at any other time. Also, no particular order:
01 The 400 Blows
05 Vertigo
17 Stalker
02 Days of Heaven
0B Roman Holiday

loyal's inclusion is a necessity. His broad, wide-range appeal will make it easy to infiltrate (and therefore overthrow) every nook and cranny of KJ.

After much discussion, the decision has been reached to allow Gulli membership. This didn't come easy, but we feel it is the right decision for the overall health of the society. As my co-chair trixster put it, Gulli is a discerning film watcher, and while he may not be the master of snobbery, he has a firm grasp and understanding of the medium, which is a hell of a lot more than I could say for the lot of ya.

Oh Dark Shape, a fellow genre fiend.

While I enjoy the majority of your thoughts on horror films and would love to have the society laced with a bit of genre appreciation, your top ten is wildly off the mark. Overrated Summer Blockbuster B is included, which is grounds for immediate dismissal alone. When you include Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Iron Man, The Strangers, Cloverfield, and Hellboy II... well, that is just a giant recipe for a nice and hot shit sandwich.

I appreciate the inclusion of Kubrick and the always underrated John Carpenter on your directors list, but Cuaron and Tarantino are both wildly overrated, and Guillermo del Toro suffers the same way Paul Thomas Anderson did on loyal's application. However, I'm actually fairly partial to your top five movies. You have three of best horror films ever made on it (one of them is not The Exorcist), which is wonderful and interesting.

Taken as a whole, I will have to unfortunately decline your application for membership to the Only Club That Matters*. Obviously my co-chairman will have his chance to review your application, but barring a miraculous and spirited fight for your inclusion, I regret not being able to add a fellow horror aficionado to the ranks.

I appreciate your love of horror, and this is aptly reflected with your inclusion of Let the Right One In and The Strangers in your top ten. But when you also include a triumvirate of vastly overrated films (Animated-POS-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Iron Man) in your top five, that has to be taken into account.

I get the sense that people are including Kubrick just so they'll be taken seriously, especially when they neglect to mention THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME in their top five. Not to say The Shining isn't deserving (it certainly is), but Pan's Labyrinth? Really? Of all-time?

I love Cuaron and del Toro as much as the next guy, but I don't think they're experienced or, frankly, talented enough to be listed as top five directors of all-time. And Carpenter and QT are both wildly overrated fanboy directors.

Also, remembering your blind and irrational dismissal of one of the greatest films ever made, The Night of the Hunter, I just can't bring myself to allow you in. So, sorry, I'm going to have to agree with makeshift and say no.

Grossest analogy ever?

If I'm going to be a terribly bland, unfunny, and tasteless critic who panders to the very worst of our society, I'd rather be Leonard Maltin. Or at least Berardinelli.

Leader of the Pack,

Despite a completely see-through and wholly pathetic attempt to win favor by switching your avatar to a B&W movie (that was made in 1994, no less), you were doomed as soon as I laid eyes on that awful, awful, awful top ten. I'll give you some credit for actually watching Snow Angels, but judging by the rest of your application I'm convinced that was some sort of mistake and you were actually expecting the sequel to Michael Keaton's Jack Frost.

I stopped reading your top fives entirely after Christopher "Why the fuck do people like me?" Nolan's name popped up - at the number one position no less!

Denied, denied, denied a thousand times over. Your consolation prize is a Rob Schneider DVD set autographed by Lucifer.

I don't need to hear from my co-chairman here, but I will await his take before proceeding, if for no other reason than I enjoy a good public drubbing.

I won't add much, except that I feel bad for readers of The Nevada Sagebrush, who have to put up with a film reviewer with such a total lack of appreciation or knowledge of cinema. There's just no accounting for taste anymore.

DE-NIED.

YAY! One of my favorite comedies is Deuce Bigalow, so i am happy with this outcome! Thanks for taking the time to drub me!

I won't add much, except that I feel bad for readers of The Nevada Sagebrush, who have to put up with a film reviewer with such a total lack of appreciation or knowledge of cinema. There's just no accounting for taste anymore.

DE-NIED.

Believe it or not, there is a lot worse garbage put in the Sagebrush every week than my reviews, so i agree that you should feel sorry for them! Otherwise, i am quite content with my view of viewing movies on entertainment value. You snob/elitists can have your tea and crumpets and talkie motion pictures! :P
