It's sad to see Mel Gibson's new film being this mid-tier thriller. This is the guy that made Braveheart, Apocalypto, The Passion of the Christ! And now he's relegated to this.

They're definitely going for the Top Gun Maverick effect here with the love interest, movie star and Kosinski
I actually like it, Captain America seems like more of a man with gadgets like Batman than a superhero, which I think is a change from 2010s Marvel style. I like having a bad guy president in a movie again assuming Ford goes that way.
Monster Summer seems like fun. It will inevitably get the "oh this is just a Stranger Things knockoff" backlash, and yes it almost definitely exists because of that series, but it still looks fun. And more importantly it doesn't look DTV-ish like Gibson is often associated with these days. And it's coming to cinemas!

Does look good, I quite like Levitt's recent stuff. And this reminds of The Nice Guys, not sure it can meet that, but it'll be a win if it's better than War on Everyone.

I just watched the trailer for The Silent Hour. I'm not going to share it because I don't want to promote crap action films like that. It is action with an element of woke about it. Doing the whole deaf thing, to get deafness more into the mainstream, just means that the reality will be bent even more than it already is in action movies solely to incorporate the disability and promotion of it.

This looks good. I think it might be an awards contender, too. At first I thought it was a black-and-white western with Viggo, and my interest was in the stars. Then it brought me back down to earth, but it still looks decent as a time-hopping reflection on native Americans.

The new trailer for Megalopolis starts with bad reviews for Coppolas other beloved films like Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Dracula. The idea is that "see these films were misunderstood at first too." Ignoring the fact that those films, save maybe Dracula, were acclaimed oscar winners at the time.
But the best part - all of those reviews quotes were actually fake. lionsgate has pulled the trailer. Turns out someone used chatgpt and nobody bothered to check whether the information was correct or just some shit the ai made up.
For such a "visionary", Coppola cannot see that film has moved on since the 1970s. Megalopolis will not ever be a classic. Its ideas and themes are no longer inspired and creative. They have already been widely digested by society. Film is purely about entertainment now. With the way the current media and information world is, it can never be the source of imagination again. His film looks just like any other "futuristic" and grandiose spectacle that failed to get anyone excited. It will follow the same path as films such as Crimes of the Future, Cosmopolis and High-Rise; relative obscurity.
Also, any sci-film where the characters where togas and emulate ancient Greece just looks stupid, imo.
Though I must say that the trailer idea was decent. It was different that the rest of the schlock out there. I don't know about the AI thing and it being pulled (I still caught it just now, though admittedly from trailer channel) but the concept is at least novel.

Not that I’ve seen his recent stuff, but it’s amazing his filmmaking has declined so much apparently instead of levelling out around his 90s version.
