 Fall 2016 = meh?
The Passengers trailer and confirmation of Scorsese's Silence spice things up a little. Overall I'd say this fall is super weak and lacks any dynamite must see films. October has some interesting looking thrillers, November has reliable franchises and December will 'member the death star.
Yet even the biggest Marvel and Star Wars' fans are just seeing these out of franchise loyalty. Guardians 2 and Episode 8 is what we really want. And while JK did write the Fantastic Beasts script, none of the footage has indicated it will be able to recapture the magic of Potter. Even the Oscar race is deflated this year, struggling to recover from front-runner Birth of a Nation's disqualification.
Meanwhile Q1 2017 is stacked with the likes of Baby Driver, John Wick 2 and The Dark Tower. Any one of those would bowl over this fall's puny offerings.
So am I right? Or is it just a poor season my particular taste?

I don't think you should go just by trailers. If a film sounds appealing on paper, that should be the most important thing.
I'm hella excited for Moana, I hope it can have great music and a great story, unlike Tangled which had a great story but just good music and Frozen which had great music but just a good story.

 Re: Fall 2016 = meh?
It seems good to me.
The Girl on the Train, The Accountant, The Magnificent Seven, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, American Pastoral, Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival, La La Land, Kidnap, Bleed for This, Nocturnal Animals, Desierto, In a Valley of Violence, and Allied all appeal to me.
Technically, apparently, Passengers and Silence are just outside of the fall window, which ends of 20th December. But even not including them, the Fall season looks pretty good.

I didn't think Algren would be interested in a very very gay-looking movie with James Franco and Christian Slater, but there you go.

 Re: Fall 2016 = meh?
Its actually one of the better Falls - perhaps not so much for the blockbusters but for all the mid size and smaller films - many of which have not disappointed regarding early festival reviews and such.

No, it looks amazing. Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival, Fantastic Beasts, Passengers, and all the quality Oscar contenders of course. It's the best time of the year.

 Re: Fall 2016 = meh?
Lets face it - 90% of the year's must see films are released in the Sept-Dec(Jan platform) corridor.

 Re: Fall 2016 = meh?
Well Girl on the Train is apparently mediocre so we lose another of the few good ones. And the oscar race is still a snoozer.
Meanwhile Q1 2017 continues to pile it on with the announcement of Jordan Peeles horror movie, Get Out.

 Re: Fall 2016 = meh?
Sully, Deepwater, Mag 7, Don't Breathe, all pretty solid. This is not a bad fall by any means. Also, I doubt anyone of your Q1 2017 films will be better than anyone one of them.
