Mel Gibson - How do you feel about him 10 years later?
It seems like people just cannot forgive or forget what Mel Gibson said. I get it...Hollywood is run by Jews and he made anti-Semitic comments (which basically sealed his fate of never truly being able to return to A-list actor) but the impression I get is as if he had a killing spree in a kindergarten. I mean, Jesus, all he did was get drunk and spout some shit (which isn't even true) - what's SO unforgiveable about that? Or is it merely because Jews control Hollywood and won't give him a break? It kind of seems to be. I mean, all of his projects since the incident have been in non-Hollywood circles, so to speak (The Expendables 3 for Nu Boyana in Bulgaria, Hacksaw Ridge for his own Icon Productions in Australia, Machete Kills for Robert Rodriguez in Texas etc.). It just seems like Mel is less revered than people that have done MUCH worse things (Roman Polanski for example), and in my opinion it's not right.
People don't seem to have a problem with Cruise or RDJ anymore, so people are willing to forget/not care about celebrity scandals/controversy. It has been ten years since Mel fucked up - how long does he need to be in the wilderness? He has apologised, he's paid his time, he's had many other stars vouch for him that he's not a racist, he's gotten his act together, and he's trying to get his career back on track. Why can't people see that he's a good man that made a stupid mistake, and just embrace him like they did before?

Hollywood is leftist and with a number of powerful Jewish power brokers in control - he never had a chance really.
I would love to see Mel back with a late career resurgence similar to Liam Neeson though. Maybe QT could have him be one of the stars in his next film.

Maybe he is happy doing without Hollywood. Why do you want to make him suffer again?

Re: Mel Gibson - How do you feel about him 10 years later?
He will never be What Women Want-era Mel again, but maybe this is fine. I am glad as long as he is directing, and it would be cool if a left-field young director such as Michôd, Wheatley, Winding Refn, etc. used him in an interesting, revitalizing way.
However, I have not highly enjoyed the era of Mel as Nudge-Nudge Presence in B Action Movies.

I miss Mel making quality films. I don't believe any actor/director is happy working outside of Hollywood, especially when they had such success with it before. Content, but not happy. He probably wants to be back making Hollywood pictures. I see no other reason why he would have made Edge of Darkness otherwise.

Gibson is great. One incident doesn't define a person.

He's looking more like old Sinatra now who was also quite the racist. Mel will never be Mel again. I dislike what he said, but I will never not love his movies

I'd like to see him do more directing.

He doesn't have the output. So I wouldn't assume he's happier now than in 1995 when the world was at his feet.

It's a business where all your moves are being watched closely and a veteran should know that. He fucked up and fucked up again and got what he deserved.

Re: Mel Gibson - How do you feel about him 10 years later?
He will be fine in the end. It is all right to have a complicated legacy: immense charisma, troubled personal life, etc. The world of film, music, and television allows this, even savors it, even if people gnash their teeth and tut-tut on Twitter in the moment.
There are limits (see: Cosby), but the boozy, blustery, at times mean bastard who is also a talented director and an iconic, super-cool movie star among movie stars? Easy.

Here is an interesting interview with Tarantino where he discusses his tjoughts on Fury Road and more importantly why it took him so long to see it. hint: no Mel Gibson... https://www.facebook.com/screen.austral ... nref=storysecond half of the interview.

Gibson is an asshole. That's incurable. He's still an asshole, and an anti-semitic one at that. Saying terrible racist and evil stuff when you're drunk isn't an excuse -- the alcohol just allowed you to say the crap you're always thinking anyway.
Doesn't mean he shouldn't make movies, but geez, I wouldn't want to work with such a guy.

The antisemitism on this board is astounding.
